People who had longer amateur careers at the top level generally don't require as much pro experience.

I understand what you're saying about preparing for Wlad requiring more experience, though. Povetkin hasn't been fighting the right opponents in Nolan and Mora to prepare for someone like Wlad.
The interim title is not a World title. Is basically another way to say #1 contender but at the same time collect sanctioning fees by the sanctioning bodies. Rigondeaux is fighting for the right to fight the WBA Superbantam weight World champion.

I thought Povetkin started off pretty good, with Byrd, Donald, Chambers. in back-to-back-to-back fights. That run was quite impressive. Even Jason Estrada I didn't feel was a wrong opponent. However, I think his inactivity with the injury has slowed him down. He was fighting at least 4 times a year and then jump down to twice a year. But, I agree now he needs to fight fighters that would get him ready for the Klitschkos. Maybe Dimitrenko just to see how he does against the height. Who is not a terrible HW. I think he is better than Michael Grant who Adamek just fought

And, like I said is one thing about being ready to fight for a World title. I honestly do think Povetkin is ready to fight for a World title. But, it is a whole different animal than to be ready to fight for Wladimir Klitschko. Unfortunately for Povetkin Wlad and Vitaly have 3 of the 4 major titles.

I do believe that Povetkin, Haye, Boytsov, and Adamel all have a chance even a small one to beat one of the K-Bros. However, I don't think none of them are ready yet. I would honestly like to see a tournament between those four. And, the winner fight one of the Klitschko's.

The thing is, it seems Teddy is trying to teach him how to fight in a Tysonesque style. For him to get comfortable fighting in that style after years in the amateurs, he needs to get experience using the style in an actual fight.

The way Teddy was talking on Klit-Peter, he seemed as if he was training Povetkin to beat Wlad. Except for his defense, Povetkin has the type of style that can really give Wlad trouble, imagine with some added Tysonesque features (on quickly closing distance, not letting himself get tied up, bobbing and weaving on his way in, etc.).

Hard to change an amateur with 100+ fights, but Teddy is definitely giving it a go.

wasn't that hard to tie up Tyson

Tyson also waited for the ref to break the 2 of them instead of trying to fight inside while he was tied up

        I agree with the rest

Atlas didnt say that to discredit Wlad, he said that because Klitschko back then lost to a guy like Puritty but now after lots of fights and practise he has improved a lot and is the best heavyweight out there. And Povetkin also needs more fights to get better.

What is this injury you keep talking about that supposedly slowed him down? It's evident that when he backed out of their first fight because he "hurt his ankle while running by tripping on the roots of a tree" was obviously a lie.

My issue is since he got the title shot by beating Chambers he did absolutely nothing for 2+ years but fight guys outside the top 30. It's only within the last 6 months or so that he's actually taken any steps to try and improve. IT's his ******ity more than anything that frustrates me about him.

Am i the only one who remembers this ad campaign in 2008. Povetkin and his promoters were confident. What the hell happened?

Atlas is doing the right thing. He knows Povetkin isn't ready yet, he needs to sharpen some of his tools first.

I imagine that if he can develop the head movement of a young Tyson it will give him a better chance of getting inside and doing damage on the Klits.

It's Povetkins fault that he has had so little pro fights at the age of 31 after a good amateur career, he has nobody to blame but himself. You also cant say oh "he only has XX" of fights and Wlad had "XX". In the HW division it doesnt really matter. You could fight 50 bums. I think that Povetkin screwed up his career going with Teddy Atlas and will regret it later.

I would like to see a Povetkin vs Boytsov with the winner fighting Vitali.

Sdunek has trained both. I don't imagine we'll ever see them fight. I get the impression that they'll hold Boytsov back until Vitali retires, unless they go a route other than the WBC. No way will Haye fight him though so i imagine that's how things will unfold.

Those guys would have a shot at beating Povetkin, definitely wouldn't be a smart move for Atlas to set those up. Also Thompson and Pianeta being lefty's wouldn't be helpful.
