Just remember there was a full 16 months between the fight against Marg and the fight against Mayweather. That is more than enough time to fade considerably - some boxers seem to do it overnight so a year and a half is plenty time.
In my opinion, in Jan 2009 he was nearing the end of his physical peak but was still in good condition. By May 2010 he had deteriorated which will probably continue.
There was an age between the Marg and Floyd fight, anything could have happened with his body in that time.Comment

Good post and I don't know why everyone overlooks this...there was a year and half between the fights, and shane was inactive in this period, I know he keeps himself in shape and does a lot of sparring between training camps, but that is still a long...long time in boxing especially in your mid-late 30's. Not to mention the fact that doing a lot of sparring can cause you to deteriorate even faster. The margarito fight was stylistically a good fight for shane as margarito is very easy to hit. He turned back the clock that night and it was his last special night, he should have retired there. I think the mayorga fight was more of an accurate barometer of where shane was in his career, he may have lacked motivation, but a guy with the talent of shane should not be struggling on the cards against a mayorga. Shane was shane for 2 rounds against floyd, and then his mouth was open and you knew he was in trouble. He looked old, and didn't look like he had rehydrated properly from the weigh in, a sign that he overtrained, or was struggling with the weight.Just remember there was a full 16 months between the fight against Marg and the fight against Mayweather. Mosley isn't completely shot but he not anywhere near his prime either. Go back a few years and see how he went to war with a completely shot Vargas in their first fight before he knocked out the even more shot version the second time. Then before the Margarito fight he went life and death against another completely shot fighter in Mayorga before he pulled off the KO which erased the performance because all everyone remembers is the KO.
In the Margarito fight I believe Margarito's confidence was shot because he was not the same fighter after being caught with the illegal wraps. I don't have too much sympathy for him losing but that completely hurt him going into that fight. In a rematch I would pick Margarito to beat Mosley but that was Mosley's last great performance. I believe from here on out it will only get worse.Comment

People talk about the Margarito fight like it happened a few months before he fought Floyd. It's been nearly two years since that fight, if you don't think a 38 year old fighter can become shot in two years than you're wrong.Comment
