U'r Right!! I don't understand why they sign these long term contracts...In that part of the business Hector "Macho" Camacho was smart, cause he never got tied up with any promotor..Camacho used to do his business with promoters on a fight by fight basis, NO LONG TERM AGREEMENT!! Mayweather is doing it now & good top of the line fighters should follow those type of examples..Comment

I GUARANTEE you that the CA commission would not have intervened over a "verbal" or handshake agreement. There must be something in writing or the commission would have no authority whatsoever to intervene.Whoa! We don't know the details of the issue, but what if he had made a promise, perhaps verbal, to pay his promotional company for services rendered and he reneged on it?
Sometimes people break handshake agreements and don't expect the consequences to catch to them until they least expect it.
I'm not saying that's what happened. But, it may not be far from the truth.
King tried the same **** on Nate and send a letter saying he was owed money or whatever (total nonsense) hoping Golden Boy or the NY commission would just withhold money from Nate's purse and send it to him. It took me about 3 minutes to squash that garbage.
All I'm saying is that if a court order was issued, odds are it is a valid debt. If its not valid, then Vivian can get an injunction holding the money in escrow until a court determines the validity of Main Events claim.Comment

Fighters sign long term contracts because if they didnt then what promoter in his right mind would invest tens of thousands of dollars developing a fighter with that fighter having no contractural obligation whatsoever to the promoter?U'r Right!! Camacho came up in a different era where fighters actually sold tickets and the promoter could use a guy on one show and not take a bath. These days 95% of the up-and-coming fighters cant fill an Elks lodge, much less a stadium. So the promoter takes the losses on the early fights in the hopes that the kid develops into something later on and then the investment can be recouped via television revenue.
For example, I just signed a kid named Antton Slaughter. This kid is a stud, but it will take me probably $80-$100 grand to get this kid to 20-0, if not more. So once I get him to 20-0, I'm supposed to just fade away while he goes to another promoter? I'm not supposed to be able to get my investment (plus a profit) back?
It seems some folks here have no idea whatsoever how this business works. Do you think fighters like Bradley, Alexander, Dawson, etc., just grow on trees? Well they dont. SOMEBODY paid for their development.Comment

Some guys are here are just completely clueless how the world works man, dont even sweat it.
If Main Events is to the point of having a court order against the guy, it means he has owed them for a good minute.
To the poster asking about his wife and kids: What about his promoter and his employees' kids? They got to eat too, and from the looks of it Mr. Harris spent money from advances, previous purses or agreed fights/contracts he didnt honor instead and never paid anybody back.
Are they supposed to work for free? Building a guy up is a huge investment and gamble; if a guy gets to the big stage and loses then two or three fights in a row out of nowhere, all the money his promoter put into him was pretty much wasted.
God knows how much money was lost on Tye Fields and Travis Walker.Last edited by paulf; 09-21-2010, 05:06 PM.Comment
been wondering that myself, the fighters skills and ability to appeal to some base or bases sells fights not promotion.
