The new trend; catchweights for titles. I don't appreciate it from Pacquiao, and neither will I for Williams.

I'm pissed at both of them for agreeing to this nonsense 157lb fight, Williams for requesting it, Martinez for being ****** enough to accept it.

I wish Kelly Pavlik was still champion.

There is no guarantee that the Ring MW title will be on the line. The Ring has not spoken about this issue yet. Sergio Martinez doesn't decided when the Ring belt is on the line, only the Ring does.

That's a fair point, but I don't think it's The Ring title that has any respect. It's the notion that it is the true lineal title, Hopkins - Taylor - Pavlik - Martinez. I think the fans know that, more than they know that The Ring associates itself with that path of lineage.

So what do we acknowledge as fans when the Undisputed MW Champ is fighting at 157lb? Especially if Williams is to win.

It makes things very complicated for me. I can't brush that off.

I'm only assuming, but lineally, I would expect that "claim" to be on the line because the fight is taking place in between 154 and 160.

We have different viewpoints. I believe a MW Championship fight should allow both fighters to reach the maximum weight of 160lb, if they so choose. That choice has been removed from the contract. So then it is not a true MW fight as it does not adhere to the original rules.

It's bad enough we have to watch these bull**** catchweight fights, but now they are putting the lineal championship on the line??? And Martinez who I thought had some common sense agrees to it?? And Ring Magazine sanctions it for their belt?

This really takes the excitement out of the fight for me. I don't want Williams to win anymore, because I don't want to have to acknowledge some bull**** MW Champion. Or have to choose my own champion from a litter of trash belts.

So I hope Martinez wins and we can write this off. For the sake of boxing.

Jesus Christ you are obsessed with this.

There was NO MENTION of a catch weight from ANYBODY from either camp. Also no mention at the presser.

You act so hurt by this as if Martinez would be a weight drained zombie. Goodness. Relax bro.

It means a lot to me, man.

And the latest article from Boxingscene says the fight is at 157lb. So I'm presuming it was mentioned at the presser at some point, just not in the videos.

I'm not mad, because Martinez would be at some supposed disadvantage. I'm mad, because I think it's a disgrace to the lineal belt.

I think it is bull**** that it's at 157 but is Martinez really wanting it at 160 anyways(havent been reading into the fight)? Both men probably don't consider themselves natural 160s and both probably feel themselves better at a lower weight. This is probably why there wasn't too many problems getting the fight done.

It says in the most recent Boxingscene article that Martinez agreed to 157lb to accomodate Williams and to get the fight made. It's probably a good weight for Martinez anyway, but if I was the MW Champion I'd be saying the maximum weigh in is 160lb. Let's do this the way it's supposed to be done.

I'd be embarassed to be challenging for the MW title at 157lb, and I'd be embarassed defending it at 157lb.

I'm surprised The Ring belt management didn't step up and say this fight has to have a maximum weight clause of 160lb in order for us to sanction it for the World MW Title.
