If he ever really wanted the recoginition of being a great, he should have stepped up to the plate 10yrs ago.

In my eyes, he'll always be known as a "if only" fighter... I mean there's no doubting his talent, but he's always seemed to come across as the fighter that didn't want to take on a tough challenge.

I would class Roy Jones Junior as one of boxing's tragedy's (like a Shakespeare play!... LOL!..)... Coz' the worst thing is, he probably could have beaten the best in each weight class if he hadn't avoided them! But you can't define a fighter as a great based on "what if's", and "if only's".
    Very well agreed..

In a way I would like to see Roy win and in a way I would like to see him lose.

He was an unbetable fighter for almost a ****ing decade an even though I never thought he fought the right guy who could test him the long list of opponents including Hopkins and Toney never came close.

He is a great fighter regadless of what happened in his last two fights and a win going out would be nice...but paying $50 too watch Roy run around and try and out point a guy is not going to be very exciting, watching him lose is exciting, so either way it will be nice.

He should retire though because if he wins that ego of his may get overpumped and he will wind up on his back again eventually.

Its opinions, there many who think like you but I tend to not be as harsh of critic as some. In my opinion RJ is great...

Why respect Roy for trying to make more money. This one isn't about wins or losses cuz if and when Roy gets KO'ed again, he's just gonna let people say he was old and didn't have it anymore instead of saying Tarver kicked his ass. Roy doesn't have it anymore BECAUSE Tarver kicked his ass in that 2nd fight. Roy was still the same fighter then, he just got beat by the better, hungrier fighter.

This time around, we all know Roy is finished after Tarver destroyed him in the 2nd fight. So this time, Roy is just trying to make more $$$ on his way out. And I don't respect that at all.

I don't know if anyone said this already, as I did not read all of the responses from the thread, but I think the main reason alot of people are jumping to the conclusion that Roy Jones jr. will get obliterated in his third meeting with Tarver, is that they're looking at his performances against Glen Johnson, weighing in the fact that he is no longer hungry, and also are probably thinking that he'll be a little rusty.

To be honest, I don't think there will be any knockdowns or knockouts in this fight. Who wins the decision, beats me....I'm leaning more towards Roy Jones, though.

i agree. roy's got a lot of money already. he and his children can live off what he's got for years to come. he's got a clothing line (in conjuction w/ a contract with nike), a record label, a boxing promotion company, plus a lucrative contract from HBO as a commentator. i'm surpirsed this fight is ppv.

the fact remains...tarver gave him the fight of his life in their first encounter then went on to knock him out on the second...after all that, roy still wants a piece of him. i tell you a lot of people have a lot of nerve calling pro-boxers cowards when they can potentially die from the way they make their living.

Yup, I agree with everything you said except the comment about the PPV.

They had to make this fight PPV, its RJ's last chance to shine.

its not about roy getting respect... its cuz hes do sumthing ******.... roy is defeintily no doubt IMO the greatest fighter in the last 15 years... him n PBF, but back in 1995 PBF wasn't there.
RJJ beat everyone IMO at the time who was good
hammered both toney and hopkins. he was the first person in how many years to go up to heavyweight to take a title .... n IMO he would've stayed there if tarver didn't call him out repeatedly. n the loss to antonio was a good shot n a good KO. n roy was still good then. but when he fought johnson he was nothing. u could look at him n tell that he didn't want to be there.
now, i think its teh same. i think the money is jus good hto.
im worried for RJJ, n i hope that tarver wins, bcuz even if RJJ wins, hes not going to stay like that for long, hes going to lose again then retire again....
