Roy Takes A Chance And Still Gets No Respect

Roy Jones Jr. is taking a chance when he steps into the ring against Antonio Tarver October 1st. His whole career he has been degraded for not taking chances. Now he takes one and most boxing posters and writers are ripping him for taking this fight. Roy asked for this fight, he wanted this fight. Roy Jones isn't ******, he is a smart fighter and buisness man. I bet Roy had this whole thing planned out from the beginning of this year. Tarver is the same age if not older, plus he hasn't looked that great in his last two fights. Roy only took two real beatings in his career, so why is he in such great danger. Where talking about a guy who once went a whole round without being hit. No one said Tyson was "playing with a loaded gun"(front page article)when he returned after his beating from Douglass, Lewis, Holyfield and Williams. Roy is training right now and remember he wanted this fight! I think Roy just might have enough left in him to pull it out. He is taking a chance, trying one last time to shut up the critics. Give the man some respect...unfortunatley respect is never given to any fighter now. People will talk crap about Roy for the next two months. And then if he wins they will say well Tarver was overated. Boxing does seem to have the cruelest fans when it comes to respect...we dig into their careers and claim that they never faught anybody.

but that's the problem...he's not that guy anymore...and realistically hasn't been since 168. i saw that fight with vinny paz and for damn sure he doesn't move like that at lightheavy weight.

sometime for the good of the boxer the fans have to let go and accept his best days are behind him...

I'm sure the money had something to do with it as well...

Sounds like a Kobe Bryant fan. "Oh, nobody likes Kobe!!"

No, millions of people like Kobe, but the ones that don't...Well, they really don't. It has a lot to do with their attitudes.

Roy gets plenty of respect, so I wouldn't worry about him if I were you. I personally like Roy, but I still think this is a mistake.

If Jones wins the fight against Tarver & goes beat Johnson in the rematch. The legend of Jones will reborn. If Jones loses to Tarver, then he better not fight again, this is a huge fight for Jones & his career.

Im with ya my man, Roy has given us very few moments too get excited about and in his last two fights he has never been more exciting and people want him to quit? What the hell-he has certainly delivered the fans excitement in his last two outings and here's hoping he gets thrashed one more time!

Ouro options are Roy getting his ass kicked or Roy running around winning one boring ass decision, damn I hope Roy sticks with being the exciting fighter I have cometo love the last couple of fights!

I know that wasn't my point...my point was this isn't a situation of a fighter who has taken tons on beatings.

All I am saying is if Roy does win I don't want to hear Tarver was overated. There some writers who say Jones doesn't have a chance in hell of winning.

This will provide personal satisfaction for Jones if he wins but it stops right there. Jones will have to fight super cautious and pick his shots carefully. Jones will be heavyily criticized for the style he will fight when he comes back which makes the comeback pointless. People will disrespect the style he will use to defeat Tarver.

Goes back to what I said boxing has the cruelest fans when comes to respect. A win will provide satisfaction to RJ fans in Pensacola Florida and all around the world. Like me...

Ohh I will be joyous and jumping for joy. But if he wants the general publics respect he will have to KO Tarver.

Best method to defeat Tarver is throw next to NOTHING in the first half and let Tarver come to you and punch himself and pour all of your energy in the later rounds. Out of all of the Tarver fights I have seen this strategy will work, he isnt able to deal with fighters late in a fight. If Roy could throw hard combinations in the late rounds he stands a possible chance of stopping Tarver. But he has to fight like a cheetah and run and conserve his energy in the first part of the fight.
