Well, first things first...those of you saying "If Khan hadn't ducked Maidana earlier this year, he'd have got 75-25" that is completely inaccurate. Maidana beat Victor Ortiz for the interim title before Amir Khan beat Kotelnik for the main strap. Whenever he negotiated the fight, it would have been 55-45 if he went to a purse bid. Is this fair sum for both fighters? Probably not, it should probably be 60-40, Khan is a bigger star than Maidana and he is biggest money maker in the division. But if I was Khan, I would take 55-45 in a second...just because I'd want to beat Maidana and make a statement. If he rejects this and vacates, will lose a lot of respect for him.

I bet if it goes to a purse bid and the split is 55/45, Khan will drop the belt.

Given that Maidana is the Interim champ i think 55-45 is fair. Maybe 60-40 in favour of Khan would be fairer but who cares, Khan will still lay him out regardless of money.

I reckon Maidana wants so much money because he knows Khan is miles ahead of him, he's just looking to get a big payday so it makes it worth it for him.

              Good catch, my bad.

It's fair because it's the WBA's published rules. If Khan doesn't like their rules, he shouldn't have fought for their belt in the first place.

Is it fair that it always rains when I go camping? You could say no, but it's silly to complain about it.

In any case, what really was outrageous was team Khan trying to hoodwink Maidana into accepting a low ball offer, and then lying to the press, saying Maidana wasn't Khan's mandatory when he was, and claiming that Maidana was being greedy, and pricing himself out of the fight, when in fact he was simply asking for what he is entitled to.

So, how does the actual bidding part work? They both have the same promoter, so is this just a formality or could GBP still actually screw over one fighter?

Maidana deserves at least 40% if Khan is co-promoting the fight in the UK and Khan wants to the fight in the UK. We know Khan is going to keep all the TV rights money, live gate, etc.

Maidana deserves a payday after Khan ducked him earlier in the year to fight Paulie.
Last I heard, Schaefer is pushing to have the fight take place in the U.S.

Khan wants to the fight in the UK because he said he wants to fight in front of his fans and his last fight was in the US. It would make him more money to have the fight in the UK.

Well if it goes to purse bids (and GBP are now saying they expect to get contracts signed before the purse bid deadline, in which case there won't be a purse bid), then although in theory other promoters could bid for it, I doubt they actually will in practice, so GBP would win the bid.

But I presume GBP would have to bid enough to ensure that 55% of what they bid can satisfy their contractual obligation to Khan, which I believe is to pay him just over $1 million per fight. The other 45% would go to Maidana. The percentages would be set in stone, so neither fighter could be screwed over.

Because Maidana was an interim champ he was suppose to get 45% from any purse bid, But since both team seem to have come to an agreement now they would not have to go to purse-bid.
