Right, I understand that... which is why I am surprised that Schaefer is pushing for the U.S. It was just posted that Schaefer is expecting the fight to take place in Las Vegas.

GBP have explicitly stated several times that it would make him a lot less money if it is held in the UK.

And they are now saying it's definitely going to be in Vagas.

Khan always knew that it would make more if it were in the US, but wanted it to be in the UK so his fans could see him. But that hope was stymied the moment the WBA said it should go to purse bids, because the highest bid wins, end of story, and the highest bid will be for it to be in the US.

But I presume GBP would have to bid enough to ensure that 55% of what they bid can satisfy their contractual obligation to Khan, which I believe is to pay him just over $1 million per fight. The other 45% would go to Maidana. The percentages would be set in stone, so neither fighter could be screwed over.
Dave, I just posted this in that thread... could you answer my question to it (the bolded) if you know? Or does it just mean that Team Kahn will go ahead and agree to the mandatory split?
        ------------------------------------
So, what does that mean, does it mean that now that it has been ordered to go to purse bid split (55%-45%) that all of a sudden Kahn is willing to offer a better split of the pie (than previously offered) to Maidana (and Maidana is now willing to take it)? I don't understand why this cancels the purse bid.

Something tells me that Kahn will still walk away with a better than 55% split this way.

DamonJJ's post in that thread may be right. Or Khan may now be accepting 55%. Who knows? But one thing's for sure, Maidana is getting a much better share than he was being offered before he complained to the WBA.

BTW, I do think Khan was hoping to duck Maidana by claiming that he'd priced himself out of the fight. But when he realised he couldn't get away with doing that, and he'd be stripped if he played that game, he had to man up and take the fight.

I agree on all points, Dave. And, Damons explaination makes a lot of sense to me and clears up a lot of my questions. Thanks for taking the time out to reply my friend.

Honestly, this fight should be like 65/35 split in favor of Khan. I'm glad Khan ****** it up though because if he does win it will put a ton of his critics to bed. Get past this test, bigger paydays will come. Khan is one fighter that is looking longterm instead of short term and I applaud him for that. Too many fighters are scared to test themselves short term, to make profits long term.
