    Lewis vs Vitali

Surely I can't be the only one who saw Lewis winning that fight comfortably before the stoppage?

Just finished watching it again, Lewis was taxing Vitali's ass at times and landing the heavier shots by far. Besides the early scare I nearly scored every round to him.

    THE TRUTH

Vitali took the fight on just 10 days notice.

Vitali was clearly winning the fight 4-2 on all 3 scorecards at the time of the controversial doctor stoppage. Lewis was badly hurt and was staggering around the ring like a drunk, he barely survived the 2nd round. Lewis was getting outboxed, outworked, outlanded and was hurt several times in the fight.

    punches landed

    Vitali 156

    Lewis 102

Lewis was exhausted, worn down and hurt from the accumulation of punches and was ready to get KTFO again, he collapsed onto his stool at the end of the 6th round, Vitali was the fresher of the two, he was a man on a mission and would've KO'd Lewis for sure if the fight had continued.

All the fans at Staples Center cheered for Vitali and booed Lewis after the fight.

    Lewis promised Vitali a rematch.

Vitali destroyed Kirk Johnson in 2 rounds and called out Lewis again in the post fight interview. The scared Lewis retired shortly after that fight.

Lewis turned down 30 million dollars for a rematch and retired like a coward because he knew he would get destroyed by Vitali.

Vitali dominated Lewis and scared him into retirement.

George Foreman: "Vitali was winning the fight. Lewis got lucky, there has to be a rematch!"

Jim Lampley: "A lucky escape for Lewis who was clearly losing the fight"

Even Manny Steward was upset and pissed off at Lewis for blatantly ducking a Vitali rematch.

Lewis is scared to death of Vitali.

Lewis won rounds five and six and had Vitali hurt as bad as he'd ever been hurt at the end of the sixth. That is also true.

Would have loved to see the rematch with both guys fully prepared for each other. Would also have loved if Wlad and Vitali hadn't been sat on so long by their initial promoter so they could have touched up against the back end of a better Heavyweight class. Vitali could have been a serious threat in 2000-01 with better exposure.

Lewis was on the verge of stopping him. Anyone with a working brain could see this. Round 5 and 6 Vitali starting taking intolerable punishment. At times he looked extremely punch hurt. Lewis took some punishment but never was on shaky feet. Vitali couldn't see and would have been stopped the next round

Lewis was pretty shaky in round two. It's a great what if, sort of like what if Vitali hadn't lost four years after Williams? Would he have unified? Would Wlad have ever had the chance to recover esteem after Brewster I? Chances are Vitali-Brewster would have taken place before the Lyakhovich loss if Vitali had stayed on track and all the best Heavies would have gunned for him. Vitali was on the verge of being a MAJOR draw on both sides of the Atlantic.

When a man's eye is damn near out of his socket, of course he was losing rounds. I still think there was a greater potential for a Klitschko victory than a Lewis KO or decision.
