Ok, but Byrd is gonna fight Touch of Sleep, and Wlad may or may not fight Peter, for the #1 ranking. Where does Toney fit into this scenario? He fights Wlad, instead of Vitali, when Peter pulls out? Interesting...that might do decent numbers against RJJ/Tarver.

Byrd's not all that elusive anymore. He's very hittable and lesser punchers than Toney have found the mark on him (Golota, Oquendo). James would give him a very thorough beating at this point in time.

Like i stated, Byrd gets all fights on gift decisions, Golota and Oquendo did not win their bout with Byrd, Byrd got gift decisions by the judges and Toney Vs Byrd, I only see another 12 round gift desicion for Byrd against Toney. That is why Toney has to be in shape, so Toney wont get tired and can catch The BYRD flying(running) away during the fight and can catch him with a Knock Out punch. Byrd doesnt need to be elusive, he just needs the fight to go 12 rounds so he can get his yearly gift desicion against a fighter like Toney

If Toney is motivated enough to get into shape, hed beat up Byrd, i believe it but right now, Toney not in shape, I can only picture Byrd getting a 12 rd wrongful decision vs Toney,

Id like to see a tune up for Toney vs Kirk Johnson in a title elimination fight for Ruiz belts

Also to place it on the same night as Jones comeback is ridiculous and will flop on its ass, if Showtime really wanted to make a mark they would add it to the October 8th ppv since Toney isnt fighting a top 10 fighter.
Heavyweight James Toney, whose 90-day suspension for a positive steroid test expires Saturday, will return to the ring Oct. 1 in a Showtime main event, ESPN.com has learned.

They've got to have a show "the first saturday of every month" per their America's Fight Night gimmick.

LOL - remember after the Ruiz fight when Toney said in the interview HBO was better than Showtime and Merchant was better than Jim Gray?

It must not have backfired having Lacy-Vanderpool, Wlad-Williamson, Ouma-Phillips up against HBO PPV Trinidad-Mayorga last Oct. 2...

Toney will need to show up in great shape to fight Byrd so Byrd wont get another 12 round gift desicion. Toney in shape can K.O Byrd without getting tired. We need Byrd to get taken out. I just dont think Toney can ever get in shape ,anymore.Maybe im wrong, Toney will not get in shape to go vs Byrd, thats why John Ruiz is best suited for Toney

One man who took out Byrd and was in shape was prisonmate Ike Ibeabuschi, he KOed Byrd in 5 rounds.

Byrd is the 2nd top heavyweight today in my book. I wouldnt call him a loser and his fight with Golota was ridiculously close and could have gone either way but against Oquendo and McCline Byrd clearly won those fights. If you count holding and tackling and shoving boxing then I can see why you gave the fight to Oquendo. But that fight was dirty as hell more so than a John Ruiz fight.

Toney vs Byrd is the biggest fight in the heavyweight division that holds the most credibility and it would have meant even more if Toney didnt test positive.

I guess but give it to someone else, I think it is a poor move and it will take away whatever Toney does in the ring especially if Jones becomes victorious. You know?

I remember those words Toney was spewing but I guess Showtime is better than FSN.

I remember Showtime matching a ppv against the Trinidad return but they had a stacked card. Toney vs TBA doesnt cut it. They best have a damn good undercard to back it up.

Wasn't Antonio Margarito supposed to fight on Showtime on October 1st? Add him to the card and you have a nice (free) night of boxing.
