Do you think Hopkins saw flaws in pascal for the reason he jumped on the fight?

No they didnt, Hopkins claim there wasnt enough money in the fight and that HBO didnt offer a lot for the fight which i dont believe, Hopkins wasnt really that interested in the fight.
They did after the Jones fight:

According to Shaw, he presented HBO with a possible fight between Chad Dawson and Hopkins [prior to Dawson losing to Pascal] and the network turned it down because there was little interest in showcasing Hopkins after his performance against Roy Jones Jr. in April. The possibility of HBO providing preferential treatment to another promoter has Shaw a little uptight.

"I offered HBO a fight between Dawson and Hopkins, and they turned it down because they said they weren't interested in televising Hopkins. And you can ask Richard Schaefer because I told him what HBO had said. I don't know how Schaefer is talking about a date of December 18 when HBO is telling everyone they plan to go dark [no boxing] on that date," Shaw told BoxingScene.com.

first off, hopkins doesn't need dawson, style wise, it's not that exciting and probably wouldn't keep peoples interest while it was unfolding. dawson doesn't bring a crowd, hopkins had a larger following than dawson before he fought trinidad, which was obscure at best.

but hopkins doesnt need a dawson fight to prove anything, he's time tested and proven. dawson needs hopkins, but its something that he shouldn't be all to worried about, dawson should've and should focus on making himself the man where all roads lead to him, at this point he hasnt and that is mainly due to his lack of popularity.

hopkins is picking pascal because he has a style that fits into hopkins game plan. hopkins looks at pascal as guy that has popularity and a belt, and also, an exciting fighter, dawson not too exciting, as far as crowd pleasing. i like watching skill but we're talking overall entertainment.

bottom line, hopkins vs pascal will be more exciting than hopkins dawson, and that is what we should all be more concerned with, rather than clamoring for a fight that we know wont be all that fun and will receive more criticism than praise if it were to go down and be what everyone knows and expects it to be.

if dawson could pack the house in his home town like pascal does, we'd see hopkins fighting dawson, plain and simple.

              **Raises Hand**

              I'd prefer a Roy - Lacy rematch.

Regardless, what is hopkins supposed to do now, fight the loser of Dawson/Pascal? If hopkins fought dawson now people would say oh he's fighting him now after he lost yada yada yada and he's ducking pascal.

Hopkins should get credit for taking on Pascal who just BEAT Dawson, regardless of any flaws he might have. Pretty big risk at almost 46 years old. Most guys would have been retired by now and even a lot of bhop's hardcore fans believe he should hang them up.

                  ABSOLUTELY!!!

B-Hop sees something he knows he can exploit and I think he will but will probably get robbed on the Cards in Canada something Canada is known for

big fan of Hopkins but I think it is Bull**** how he didn't want anything to do with Dawson but now all of a Sudden when Dawson lose he wants to jump back in the mix in that division

It really isn't a risk at all.

He's 46... what's the risk? Besides getting put in a coma, there really is no risk... if he loses, he's 46.

that's a pretty big risk if you ask me.

IMO, it's a shame when someone who has never been knocked out is old and past it, and gets knocked out. Like seeing David Tua get knocked down and almost out by Monte Barrett. Almost mind boggling and sad to see.
