What did Martinez do tonight to earn a rematch? A knockdown in a round he would have lost if he hadn't? IMO He won one other round (7) in the whole fight. Maybe the 9th at a push.
Funny thing is that Burns isn't even the best in the UK. However, a superb performance from Ricky - the best of his career by far - and a deserved win. The scorecards were ridiculously close though.
Tonight proved that a good boxer will always beat a good puncher, even a great puncher. Martinez is, and was, overrated and needs to reassess if he isn't going to become another statistic.Comment

What you basically said there: 'I'm a terrible poster. I will never post anything remotely insightful. I know little about boxing. You can't misconscrew what I post because there is nothing to unravel. I'm simple and deal exclusively in cliches.'Comment

It's funny really. Degale fighting some window cleaner would have gotten more coverage then this fight. It definetely is a good win for British boxing. A real shot in the arm.
Most of the guys we are pinning hopes on like: Degale, Groves, Gavin, Cleverly etc are well of world-level, and with Kevin Mitchell getting smashed; I was struggling to see where a next world champ was coming from. Even if it may turn out to only be a brief reign. Burns has done it now. He's made it.
It had no build up here at all really.Comment

Very good fight and props to both guys for a hell of a fight. I was one of those that gave Burns little chance of beating Rocky; goes to show you nothing is given in boxing. Cong**** to Burns for the upset and IMO a FOY candidate.Comment

Indeed, although Cleverly apart I don't fancy the others chances. I do fear for Burns at world class level though, although Warren isn't bad at shielding his world champions ....Comment
