Martinez was sloppy and looked a bit drained. He caught Burns clean a few times but his punching power wasn't quite the same as in the past, gotta give credit to Burns for his chin and durability though!

Martinez doesn't deserve a rematch, Burns outboxed him. Burns created the blueprint to beat him and I can't see Martinez winning a rematch, he has a punchers chance though.

Martinez needs to move up to Lightweight. Burns was excellent tonight and should look for one or two standard defenses to put a bit of money in the bank before chasing the big fights/unifications. He's the champion now and deservedly so!

    Great show Burns!
yes martinez deserves a rematch. he went to burns hometown and gave him a shot, if rocky wants a rematch he deserves one. burns should come to p.r. for the rematch, i got rocky by k.o. in the rematch!

your boy: TV and boxing gold. He won't suffer for a payday.

I agree with £-4-£ though, he probably needs to go up in weight. The well was dry from when he failed to finish Burns in the 6th or 7th, then he was fighting on fumes.

I can see him coming back to Britain and fighting Kevin Mitchell or John Murray in the next few years.

i agree with the going up in weight part but if rocky wants a rematch he should get it with no problem.

          No problem with that.

But I think he could lose again. He's not the best version of himself or at least not tonight. He didn't look strong. Not like he did against Cookie.

Burns is not known to be physically strong and obviously doesn't punch very hard but he had Martinez in trouble. And, without going through all Martinez's fights I'm certain he has been hit by harder punches than Burns got him with - many, many times i('d imagine as he's not elusive.)

just yesterday he was saying he made weight good and felt great, the weight isn't the reason he lost, let's give burns some credit here...actually he was rocked before by a non puncher, not the first time

dont be silly , why give a hugely rated underdog credit hes due for beating a undefeated champion . sounds silly to me as its better using excuses lol

Actually you're right. Martinez doesn't mind fighting away from home, I like that. And he's done it on a few occasions and no doubt it's harder fighting away. So perhaps he does deserve a rematch. It'll definitely sell and be a great spectacle. This was FoTY so far IMO, I would love to see a rematch.

But Martinez needs to move up in weight imo, perhaps he realises this himself after tonight. So I'm not sure he'd want to pursue one at SFW. That and Burns is the champ now and I don't think he'll travel to PR. He'll make pretty decent money defending in Scotland, and he'll definitely sell out whereever he boxes in Scotland from now on.

Burns will definitely take a routine defense next anyhow, just to get some money and experience if anything.

I don't want to take anything away from Burns, I'm so delighted for him. But Roman looked stronger against Cook. It could just be to do with Burns' style but nobody expected Ricky to be able to push him back, seemingly at will. I never thought Burns was a particularly physically strong fighter. I knew he was super-fit and determined. I never thought he could be strong enough at world-level.

Burns was punch perfect and in super shape.

First of all your boy Burns is not that great and second he didn't dominate the **** out of Martinez. It was a close fight, but i agree Burns won and Martinez looked like garbage.

                      Burns is a bum.

Martinez was nothing but a hypejob.
