    A beautiful thread of semantics!!!

My two cents i guess: MY OPINION

Skills: To me "skills" equate to the fundamentals you learned as a kid/amateur
    1. Jab
    2. Cross
    3. Hook
    4. Uppercut
    5. Footwork
    6. Defensive Mechanics (blocking, slipping, parrying, etc)
    7. Head movement

Ability: These can be trained but not taught
    1. Speed
    2. Power
    3. Chin
    4. Timing
    5. Reflexes

Styles: THESE ARE SUBJECTIVE TO THE MAX - DO NOT COMPARE!!!
    1. Counterpuncher
    2. Traditional Boxer - 50/50 offense and defense (subjective)
    3. Brawler/Slugger/Puncher
    4. Offensive Minded
    5. Defensive Minded

Can you post your ATG list again. I am kind of confused with your rankings now.

This is true. Ducks and dodges punches, fighters, bill collectors, taxes, even the media. And nobody doubts Mayweathers skills, the guy is an amazing fighter. He just hasn't put those skills to use properly by fighting the best competition. His diva attitude as though he has fought the best doesn't help either.

Dude has 25 kos in 41 fights (61%). He lands (average) between 40-50% of his punches every fight. His offense is more effcient then any other boxer out right now. How is he not offensive?

a lot of posters here, mostly floyd fans, equate skills with defense which is idiotic. good defense is not just about skills...it has more to do with good reflexes which is talent not skills. if you got good reflexes, you can see punches coming much quicker and can also react quicker. defense as skills is more on blocking/parrying punches, head and body movements. but then, you can also say that good head and body movements is caused by having good reflexes. it's more of a preference really, fans of a defensive fighter prefers to see defense over offense which is ok but if you're going to insist that defense is where skills is then you're just being ******.

                  Floyd's skills.

Floyd being the most skilled fighter of all time is a common misconception amongst less knowledgeable boxing fans. While Floyd is undeniably a skilled fighter, it is ludicrous to just spurt out statements like he is the most skilled fighter of all time.

As has already been mentioned, some people associate skills purely with defence which is outright wrong; if one guy throws a million punches and the other throws none but makes the other man miss his punches - who will win? You guessed it, the man throwing the punches! If Floyd was the most skilled fighter of all time he would be knocking men out left right and centre.

To me, Floyd is similar to Roy Jones Jr. in some aspects of his game. Those who think Floyd is not reliant on speed and reflexes are deluding themselves; there cannot seriously be anyone who thinks Floyd would get away with them lead hooks so oftenif he had Valuev's speed! Floyd has better fundamentals than Roy but is inarguably reliant on atheletic qualities too. Now, if we are to associate these reflexes and speed with skill then we must also associate power with skill (because, to a certain extent this is a natural ability) and Floyd does not posses concussive power.

This post is not a knock at Floyd, he is definately a fighter with a good boxing brain and solid skills but to call him the most skilled fighter of all time without question is ridiculous!

What then would be described as skills? If its ability to throw hooks, uppercuts, jabs with both hands? Is it countering? is it shoulder roll in addition to blocking and parrying?
