I'm just trying to understand all the hate (not because of the foray into mma, but just in general)
He mostly gets hate a lot because he talks a lot. I don't hate the guy but he needs to retire.

He's just selling fights with all the talk though. As great as he is/was, his boxing style isn't necessarily the most entertaining out there. He needs to market himself somehow, and he won't sell trying to come across as the quiet, contemplative, humble and intelligent type!

This is a misguided, but maybe sincere, attempt at hyping up Toney to make MMA look better. Most boxing fans didn't buy the last UFC show because they knew Toney was 1. shot 2. lazy 3. looking for a paycheck.

Toney has been done since early 2007. In the past 5 years he has failed two steroid tests, always came in fat, was a big disappointment in a very weak HW division and he is now clearly brain damaged and shot.

You should actually WATCH his last 4 boxing fights, he only looked decent against Rahman who quit early.

People should not encourage old fighters to stick around and get even more closer to parkinsons. Toney does not deserve a shot at any HW champion and its impossible for him to even beat a top 20 contender at this point. I do not want Showtime, HBO etc to waste their TV dates on a Toney fight. The man is a HOF but his career has been finished for a few years now.

No man. Not intending to build him up/hype due to the mma fight. I am however an mma fan who hasn't followed a lot of boxing, but because of this bout with Couture did hear all the trash talk by boxing fans, and did have a sincere interest in learning why boxing fans are so hard on this guy.

Like I said, on the surface it does appear that he hasn't been THAT bad...if you even look at the last 11 bouts including Evander, Ruiz, Guinn and Booker (who may have been real promising if not for the ******* trafficking crap) he appears to have been quite decent against high-level competition over these last few years.

Your answer does appear reasonable and I might watch those last four fights like you suggested (haha...although if they're as bad as you say I'm a bit afraid to waste those couple hours of my life now!! lol!)

Seriously...it does seem like just because he had an mma bout that many fans are trying to invalidate his boxing achievements because they somehow felt that mma match discredits their sport. Why would it...they're two different sports?
