I think the guy I worked with who was able to follow instructions and implement to the plan to "a T" the best was Chad Dawson...he followed it to the letter, stayed with it, didnt deter..understands boxing and what you mean...Matt Remillard is good in that way, too...I remember one time I was with Mike Oliver and before the 8th round of a fight he was WAY ahead in I told him, "Listen, Mike-Mike, I know you're ahead but let's not play it safe, you hear me?? I want you to go all out in this last round, go for the KO. Youre going to need to be able to that when you really need to down the line. Let's do it now!! Don't ease off at all!"

My thinking was the he needed to get used to sucking it up late in the fight because when he got in with tough top of the line opposotion he woul dneed to know he could dig down if he had to...I expected him to have a good last round, maybe tire himself out but win the round and find out about himself...and dont you know he went out with both guns blazing and scored a KO with one of the most vicious "Roy Jones in his prime" type of combinations ever...was really something...

It appeared to me to deflate their fighter( i noticed a visible change in his countenance) not give him the incentive to fight with renewed vigor. Given the guys back ground or history, a life abandon by everyone who should have mattered, i suspect if he knows you will not give up on him he would fight to the death figuratively.

Your opinion would be greatly appreciated.
I missed the fight but...again, you have to know your fighter, definitely...a line that could inspire one man could totally deflate another man...

good shi t. some people have a lot more problems making adjustments than others. i see it all the time in sparring and they're much harder to make when you're getting your face pounded to me. you would think it would be easier....

What did you say to Godfrey last weekend against Huck? Huck looked to have no respect for your guy and kept throwing powershots. What did Godfrey do wrong?

to tell u the truth, I thought at times Godfrey boxed really well and kept Huck at bay but...guy was REALLY strong...he was like pacman, you know (the video game, not the welterweight)? We needed to box in sharper circles, better cutting angles...guy was relentless...and when he saw his chances he wasted no time taking them...

I am an amatuer asst. Boxing coach. and i've cornered quite of few fights. Obviously not quite on the same level as you ice; however, the principals are the same. I have noticed an extreme level of difference in our fighters response to corner motivation. i've cornered 10 yr olds all the way to 60+ year olds and none of them respond the same. I've really had to play with the trial and error on how to talk to these fighters to get them to respond accordingly...

              Big ups on the thread!
Cnote: a lot of times I think an amateur kid of 12 years old can actually show the same tendencies in the corner, similar basic strengths and weaknesses as some top pros...

You'd get free tickets to all events if they were ever to read this and take your advice

haha, funny u should say that...when i was in the ESPN studios one day I heard what Teddy (supposedly) makes each year...and I told one of the producers, "What??? Listen, you could pay me 100 K a year and I would sign a contract for LIFE, no raises required. "

Afterwards one of my friends was like, "Man, you shouldnt have told them that!!
