LLS this all makes perfect sense.

My trainer used to yell "fatigue makes cowards out of all us" and it would piss me off. Then on my first day training I asked my trainer for some water and he said " A good fighter doesn't need water and a bad fighter doesn't deserve water. Which one are you?" I told I didn't want any water and never asked for water again!!!!!!!! LOL

          Great read.

I react the same to the 'motivational speech'. I know exactly what the trainer is trying to do and it just doesn't have any effect on me. I prefer to just be given it straight!

            John:

Did you catch the Victor Ortiz vs Marcos Medina fight last year? If so what do you that of the tactic used by his corner? The old "do you want me to stop it "ploy as a means of motivation. It appeared to me to deflate their fighter( i noticed a visible change in his countenance) not give him the incentive to fight with renewed vigor. Given the guys back ground or history, a life abandon by everyone who should have mattered, i suspect if he knows you will not give up on him he would fight to the death figuratively.

Your opinion would be greatly appreciated.

              Thanks for insider info John....

                Thanks Scully. Good read.

What did you say to Godfrey last weekend against Huck? Huck looked to have no respect for your guy and kept throwing powershots. What did Godfrey do wrong?

when I was training my trainers and coaches used to tell me some funny/crazy ass ****. sometimes, just to change my mood. like say i was feeling a bit discouraged, they would clown the other guy or myself and i couldn't help but laugh or just shake my head and smile. when i would go back out there i'd do a lot better since the thought of being overwhelmed was out of my head. it was like that laugh gave me a mental brake and i was back to being focused after.

not sure how well that would work on others but it would work on me.. they didnt do the same with everyone else either because they knew everyone's personalities and how to get us to go. im a real outgoing, funny type of dude so they figured that was the way to go.

great post though. i always appreciate your stories.

                      scully,

how many of your fighters would you say are good at listening to your tactical advice and actually implementing it in the heat of battle?

It's not an easy thing to do because once a fight has a certain rhythm, it's not easy to break.
