Seems he's been dealing with it a while.
I was going to type that same exact quote.

    End thread.

Kessler HIMSELF said it's been an ongoing problem BEFORE both Ward and Froch fights.

No one should risk blindness for sport and, given his slowing down in recent years, the risk is increased.
Green K for an excellent post.

        Pretty much kills your theory
Correct but to think that it contributed and worsened it isn't illogical.

This. Any dumbass, like american bot, who is knocking Kessler who time in and time out has shown that he's a complete warrior needs to be ashamed of themselves. I don't want to turn this into a European/American thing but if asked to name american fighters who have demonstrated as much courage and consistancy to fight through that sort of adversity you'd be in short supply. Especially at 168.

The eye has always been a problem, Ward just closed the deal on it with countless numbers of heabutts and/or rubbing heads with him. I hate this for Kessler but Dirrell is going to tap that ass for him, if the fight is made.

kessler cries too much for my liking. and i don't think this injury is that serious to where he has to pull out of the entire tournament becuase in that case he would have pulled out even before froch. if he was gonna go blind he would have went blind along time ago. the guy is trying to protect his record. only a ****** wouldn't be able to see it. kessler is also HIGHLY overrated in my book, his nut bag fans run around making excuses of why he lost the fights that he lost. i was talking with dwyer boxing on facebook and he believes the same exact thing, kessler is full of ****. he actually believes that green would have had a great chance at beating him.

also, when you talk about euro fighters & american fighters you must talk about the entire situation.

go look at the sugar ray leonard tommy hearns fight. look at leonards eye. yet he still knocks out hearns. if you want to judge the balls and heart between euro fighters and american you will be laughed at because it's no contest.

Maybe Ward had heard about Mikkel's eye problem and was deliberately targeting the eye with his headbutts.
The problem was there before the fight, but surely the butts didn't help. You can also hear Kessler complain to his corner that he couldn't see. I that was after the first of the major butts.

His left is the worst one.

During the fight itself and even more so during the 360 episode you can repeatedly hear Kessler saying that he can't see and has double vision to his corner. His corner asked him to quit 5 times (Hershman can be said saying this to Goosen after the fight) and Mikkel kept refusing.

All you have to do is watch how Ward landed lead rights at will on Mikkel and he wouldn't even react because he simply couldn't see them coming. In spite of that he wasn't even in hurt once during that fight. Tough bastard.
Again you got it right. Applause.

                      He's a courageous fighter.

I wonder what would have happened if Mikkel with 100% vision had fought Ward (and without a crooked referee like Jack Reiss who allowed Ward to headbut and hit while holding as much as he wanted).
