Only in this era of boxing could someone like Miguel Cotto be considered a warrior

That right there is enough to show you Cotto isn't an A level fighter. Everyone you mentioned are B or C level fighters. Clottey is not impressive and is a B fighter himself.
Mayweather is an A level fighter. Pacquiao is an A level fighter. Cotto isn't not. Not even close. He'd barely crack PR's top 10, that is if he even made it.
Everyone I listed was a top fighter at their weight class, man.Comment

I mis-voted...but Cotto is a true warrior...he is not involved with any boxing politics, he just wants to fight and be well compensated. You put Jesus Christ in front of him and he'll fight.
If all fighters have even the smallest amount of cojones and spirit in them that Cotto has, then this sport wouldn't be on life support waiting for a May/Pac fight so much
You said Margarito would have stayed in with Mosley until he could take no more. I feel that's what he did with Margarito. He didn't look for a way out like Kermit did against Paul Willias when the heat started getting turned up, the heat was on, he hung n there against a man, in my estimation, who had loaded gloves and got battered until he could take no more.
He has faced adversity in fights before and stared it down. He could have backed out of the Clottey fight, he was given the chance (I was there great atmosphere btw) he said nah.
Torres the same, even Pacquiao he was getting mullered could have been called off but he hung in ad I personally was pissed off that he wasn't allowed to hear the final bell having stayed in and taken that punishment.
Don't diminish the heart of a man who always comes to fight and put on a show as I'm pretty sure there are a whole heap of people you could have made this thread about correctly before you even thought of Cotto.Comment

Cotto was fighting with a bad cut over his eye to begin with. Clottey might not be the mentally strongest guy in the boxing, but he is still one of the most skilled. He is a very accurate counter puncher, very strong defensive rock. He gives everyone issues, maybe except Pacquiao ( I am starting to contemplate whether that fight was even legit).

The Klitschko's have cleaned out the HW division, but how many A fighters are on their resume. I admire Cotto for fighting the best. I just don't think he's as good as his fans make him out to be.Comment

That's fine and all, but that doesn't change the fact that they were b and c fighters.

He was running and taking knee's to avoid punishment - Warriors don't do that.In regards to cuts, they're a common theme in boxing.Just because a commentator points it out and chooses to highlight it through the course of a fight, does not make it anything more than a cut.I've seen far worse cuts and I've seen fighters deal with them as they were not even there.
I suggest you start watching fights that aren't limited to the last five years, lad.Comment

And people overrate this "warrior" term. The TS said Margarito took his beating like a man?
What is so honorable about being outclassed and getting destroyed, but letting the guy beat the **** out of you even more just so you can say "oh I didn't stay down".
That is not being a warrior, that is being an idiot.
In a sport as dangerous as it is,it's an admirable act. There's a reason why fighters like Danny "little red" Lopez and Matthew Saad Muhammad are as well thought of as they are.
The mast majority of those inside the Staples center were there to see Margarito. He was the main draw/attraction for this fight. He got the s^it beaten out of him and wasn't even competitive against Mosley, but his heart, chin and determination made the fight about as exciting a mismatch as you'll ever come across.Last edited by prinzemanspopa; 08-25-2010, 12:51 PM.Comment

Being a warrior and being an A level fighter on not the same thing dumbass. Arturo Gatti (rest in peace) was a warrior, but an A level fighter he was not.Comment
