Well I expect Pirog to be back on HBO sooner or later, maybe not in his next fight because I wouldn't be surprised if Pirog makes a defense of his title in Russia before fighting in the US again but he'll be back. I think he managed to make a lot of fans with his showing against Jacobs.

oh gee, maybe it has to do with ratings, excitement, popularity, etc.

I bet Pirog is going to be a regular on HBO provided he keeps winning. He has the style, charisma and excitement that people love to see, doesn't matter where he's from.

        Fact:

Wladimir Klitschko vs. Sam Peter had the highest ratings of any HBO fight in 2005.

Yet Greenburg has refused to allow Wlad-Peter II to be shown on HBO.

So do you agree they should ONLY show American and Mexican fighters, or do you think should HBO show the best from all over the world?

I think they shouldn't discriminate at all - they should show us the best fighters and the best matchups.

Austin & ibragimov fights were killers for wlad being on hbo.that peter vs wlad fight was 5 years ago.hbo has been very selective with it's choices.if the klits were fighting on American soil vs a top flight contender I'm sure it would be on tv but they don't want to take their telecasts to Germany where their networks have control of everything like who does first interview etc....it is afterall an American network.

HBO sports is in a tough spot. I mean the driving force for them is good ratings. With their viewers in America, it is not really a stretch to think that those who will garner the highest average ratings are Americans themselves. So yes their main priority is to showcase American stars, with a few exceptions of course like Pacquiao. If you are not American, you either need to be fighting a respected American opponent or another fighter who is very respected. Bute is not fighting a big name American. He is fighting a fringe contender, so i don;t blame them on passing this fight.

If Bute decided to fight Pascal, They would grab it as both of them have been riding a big wave lately and they would bite into it big time.

HBO is even getting tougher lately with matchups the American fighters are in. Of course we fans lose, but I can see why HBO sports is seeking high ratings as they have to keep the parent HBO happy with numbers.

yes they should show the best but they won't if they are not the main network promoting the fight.in Germany they are not in control, german tv is.
