Lyle Fitzimmons is a joke. This started out as a good column and then he lost it. I don't understand why he took shots at The Ring when he was writing a story on Andre Berto. I guess if he wants to stick with the IBO who sanction fights like the Danny Green vs Paul Briggs bout then so be it.

By "so-an-so" you presumably mean Kotelnik? If so, you're insane. No one would accuse him of ducking Kotelnik (who isn't even in his weight class and has lost his last two fights) if he manned up and fought his mandatory instead. And if he didn't want to have to fight mandatories, why did the fuck he fight for the WBC title and pay their sanctioning fees in the first place? Pure hypocrisy on his part.

Where in the article does it mention The Ring?

WHERE did you gather I think people would say Kotelnik? People wouldn't say he's ducking a fighter a weight class under him. But it's easy to rant when your making stuff up. I think that Berto should fight Adyin or give up the belt, but point is people still would complain if he did fight Adyin.

Every time he mentions "Oscar" he is talking about The Ring. Golden Boy owns The Ring. If you read the article again you'll see what i'm talking about.

Because that's who he says he wants to fight instead of his mandatory. Try reading the article before posting about it.

I see what you mean. That was indeed a snide and very odd comment. Good article apart from that, but I agree with you about that comment. And calling The Ring The Oscar is itself a snide and completely unfounded dig. There's no evidence that The Ring has in any way given up its editorial independence or kow-towed in any way to GBP or to Oscar.

Most people consider The Ring's rankings to be better than boxrec's or the IBO's. And in any case, boxrec rank Cotto even higher at Jr Middleweight than The Ring does, so I don't understand why Cotto was mentioned in the article in that context.

I know very well that's who HBO is pushing for. But were but were he too fight Adyin, people would say he's ducking Jones, Mosley, some may even say Cotto. Again, I never implied that I thought people would say he's ducking Kotelnik. Kotelnik nor Adyin are not the greatest choices, and people would complain if he faught either.

Mosley and Cotto are no longer fighting at Welter, so it's ridiculous to accuse him of ducking either of them. And who is Jones?

In any case, he can't be criticised by anyone with any intelligence for fighting his first mandatory for two years - that's what all champions have to do. If he was turning down a big fight against a top 5 opponent in order to fight his mandatory, then maybe he'd get some criticism and ducking accusations, but that isn't the case. The only choices open to him at present are Adyin and Kotelnik, and in that context, for him to give up his title in order to fight someone from a lighter weight class who has lost his last two fights is just pathetic, and deserves nothing but contempt.

And it's not as if the WBC is being unreasonable. He has gone two whole years without fighting a single mandatory, so they've really been much too lenient with him up to now, and they should certainly strip him if he fights Kotelnik.

Reasonable post. By Jones I'm referring too Mike Jones, the new guy who Berto's ducking, and even though Mosley and Cotto are in different weight classes, many people would still say that Berto's ducking them. I agree he should either fight Adyin or be stripped, but I still see him being criticized if he fights Adyin. The 10/2 3-header HBO's doing is putting him inbetween a rock and a hard place, but I do think his best option is to fight Adyin, keep the belt and survey his options.
