Berto is not ready to fight the best in his own division and/or will never be. He is on thin ice with the second-tier fighters of welterweight as it is. He's a good fighter, just not that good. He could very well lose his title against Aydin. And his 0 and his comfy cushy hyped up position that HBO has fed him. They know it.

Berto should be fighting Clottey or Mike Jones.....a Berto-Jones fight could do well in Atlantic City

Berto should face Aydin. Aydin is the mandatory and should get his titleshot. If Berto doesn't comply the WBC has no other option than to strip him of the title to keep their credibility.

He can vacate the belt if he deem Aydin to low for him to fight, Dont hold the belt to ransom while you have a mandatory that need his chance to shine.

I agree with Fritz, we don't need to see this defence live and it would do Berto good to fight any where in the world

OK, for Antrob and Mr. Rado...

The magazine ratings were mentioned in context of where Aydin was listed by impartial non-WBC en****** in this matter. The specific issue at 147 was that Aydin was not in the magazine's Top 10, but Cotto, who's a reigning champion at another weight class; and Bradley, who's also a champion elsewhere and has fought just one time at 147; are in its Top 10 at welter. I'm not quite sure how that makes sense. As for where boxrec has Cotto at 154, it's immaterial to this discussion about Aydin and welterweight ratings.

The broader reason for including the magazine in the second half of the piece is in response to the tendency for people to view its rankings and its champions as the be-all and end-all for the sport. When, in my view anyway, it's not. As I pointed out, the magazine's own policy states the three ways a champion loses a title. So in theory, an incumbent could defend for 10 years without ever facing a No. 1 challenger. If you can explain to me how that's good for boxing, I'd be happy to hear it.

Aydin got his ass kicked to smithereens by Jo-Jo Dan.He doesen't deserve any title shot whatsoever. His manager Ahmet Oner is a well known crook. So eff Aydin and his title shot.

Funny how berto didnt complain that no one ever heard of miki mouse rodriguez before... i find that to be hypocritical. still, kotelnik deserves a big fight more than aydin.
