The eye lid does not contain much in the line of connective tissues. They cannot treat the cut in the middle of a round anyway. One punch to that cut could have torn the muscles controlling the eye lid and caused prolonged serious damage. It could have even left him vulnerable to a serious punch that he could not see and jeopardize his career or worse.
