Is it because they are vunerable to the right hook? and that most boxers are orthodox. i always wondered this.
howcome you never see southpaw philly shell boxers?

I saw it in Fight Night Round 3 a lot.
I've never seen it in real life, but I've also never heard anyone call it the Philly Shell in real life, except those that started with FNR3 to get into the sport. -
shoulder roll only gives an Orthodox fighter an advantage over another Orthodox fighter. There's hundreds of them.
for a shoulder roll to be effective the other way around (Southpaw)...there'd have to be a proportionate number of Southpaw fighters....and that's not the case.
Orthodox + shoulder roll vs. Southpaw doesn't work as well....since the punch you'd be rolling off is the quick Jab, not the power punch (which leaves the Orthodox fighter wide open).
It's just a numbers thing, really. There aren't enough Southpaws to make the shoulder roll a popular style for Southpaws.Comment
