Paul Williams deserves respect. Hes not fighting tailor made fighters.

I remember when champions would still fight for world titles, keep the belt, pay the sanctioning fees, defend against all mandatories and all worthy challengers... some would do all of the above and still meet other great fighters at catchweights.

Nowadays the so called pound for pound kings are DIVAS.

If Sweetpea Whitaker were champion at 147, he'd fight Paul Williams and Martinez in back to back fights w/no problems. The same can be said for champs like Tito, Quartey, Julio Chavez, Vargas, Roy, Toney, etc...
    I agree bro........

If Paul gets desperate then I guess the Martinez fight is doable, but I can understand why Paul would balk at that fight.

He already beat Martinez less than a year ago and now he has to fight him again for even money. That's not too appetizing. Especially when Floyd and Pac bring at least 6 times that to the table.

        The difference is two things.

FLoyd and Pac will never................ EVER..............fight him.

And.... Martinez is now the recognized MW champion... Williams doesn't have any belts.

I think 50-50 is fair IMO.

But why would HBO force him to fight either Martinez or the other guy?

Why is Andre Berto not doable?

            Wow, what a thread.

My two cents, I think Paul should get more credit for his accomplishments, he's fought some big names already, so the question of being "scared" is out of the question.

It sounds like people are getting irritated with his current stance, heading south to WW. I disagree with the move myself, but I still respect the cat for what he's done. Which I believe to be the point of Burner's thread.

IMO, Paul is at a "cross road" of economic feasibility. In this case he is trying to posture himself to get more money. For whatever reason, Williams is looking for a fight with Manny or Floyd. It's unrealistic, yes. Can you get upset? No. He's doing what any person would do go for the money. For the record THERE IS NOTHING WRONG with that. If a fighter can boil down to make weight then it's perfectly fine! Many before him have done it, and many after him will do the same. Using height and reach as a rebuttle is upsurd. Martinez poses a big threat, and should be treated as such. I'm sure there is hesitancy behind this fight, but it stands to be a big pay day for Williams, he's just trying to make more for the risk he is going to take.

Now, I'm a punisher fan, and I will be the first to say that he should be rematching with Martinez. I also will disclaim that P-Will needs to get his **** together and tighten up his defense, use the height and jab away. However, P-Will likes to tussle and starts brawling, as oppose to boxing. P-Will's pressure/volume style makes him vunerable, but exciting to watch. Why give the kid so much grief? Whether you thought he won, lost, or got a draw against Martinez; he put up a great fight, and THAT commands respect.

And they both present match up issues that Paul struggles with. They are both lefties.

While guys like Pacquiao are avoiding tough style matchups Williams will be back at it again with another lefty.

              Quintana twice.

              Martinez.

              Martinez or Dzinziruk.

Show him some damn respect around here.
Pwill has got my respect, he isnt the most technically sound fighter, not the most naturally gifted athlete, but he has a great work ethic and would fight anyone from the midget wrestling champion to king konh. Pwill is one of my favorites.

William is willing to fight anyone if the money is right, I don't think he gives a damn if a fighter is faster or a little slick, William feels that his work rate will even everything out and ultimately give him the win and it usually does

                  Easy.

One. HBO wants the Martinez fight for Williams because it was a highly entertaining fight. Something they can pull in a lot of viewers with.

The highlights from the first fight alone will pull in the viewership for it.

Two. DiBella, Berto's promoter will never let Andre fight Williams. He's said it so himself right on btalk.com.

I'm a fan but it has been a long time of inactivity. IMO, he should stop waiting for the $$$ fights. It's clear that Pac/Floyd don't have him in their radar.
