I am not taking sides in this argument. But i think maybe both of you are right in a sense. Because it depends what you mean what is competitive. Floyd in the lower weights fought better oppposition, but he had much more power and scored most of his KO's between 130-135. His fights at 147 were more competitive not because of the opposition but simply he had less power and had to win by decisions instead of knocking guys out, so either of you are correct depending on how you define "competitive"?

Common context is key to avoiding misunderstanding.

If the context is dealing with handspeed (Floyd's as
well as his opponents'), then it's quite arguable that Floyd
had to work harder in the lower weights.

If we're talking about overall difficulty, then sh'yeah, Floyd's
had more competitive matches in the higher weightclasses.

That Floyd has accomplished so much, and yet still gets
**** on, by fans and media alike, is really quite a phenomenon
to behold. He really has only himself to blame, too.

      h.

Agreed. Handspeed isn't the only barometer to judging how competitive a fight is. Furthermore, it can be argued that Floyd has lost quite a bit of speed since moving up. Far more noticeable than a Pacquiao. And agreed on your last paragraph as well.

When I say Mayweather has been in more competitive bouts in the higher weight classes, I mean he's been in tougher matches. Obviously Floyd fought top comp at 130 and 135. But most of those fights were hardly competitive. If we're discussing the perception going into the fight, that's one thing. If we're speaking as if we're in 2010, then you must define competitive bouts as...well, bouts that were competitive. Since he's moved to 140, I've seen Floyd get staggered, hurt, lose rounds far more often and sometimes look bad even while dominating. That was not the case at 130-135 where, save for the Castillo bout, he pretty much made every fight a mismatch.
