Jermain knew he didn't deserve to win the fight. He also fought too good to deserve the loss. B-Hop acted like he won, but also he didn't deserve to win the fight. It should have been a draw. Jermain Taylor is a very respectful person and he is a class act. Arkansas should be proud that they produced someone as classy as Jermain Taylor.

Plain, simple fact. Taylor did not "win" that fight, Hopkins lost it. You cannot spend the better part of 8 rounds on you bicycle, actually start fighting in the 9th and expect to get a decision.

To a point I agreee...as in Hopkins didnt do much, but to say that Taylor didnt win it is short-changing him and all the hard work he did! He worked his ass off until he finally got winded and he looked extremely good doing it. It's just wrong to say things like that (not singling you out cause this board is FULL of stuff like that) cause for damn WEEKS all I've heard is how Hop was gonna school taylor, gonna hurt him, gonna make him look a fool, etc. He did NONE of those things, and lost a fight in the process and nobody but a few of taylors fans dare to give the boy an ounce of credit!! I just dont get that!

I knew, too, that this fight was a no-win situation for Taylor. If he had stomped a hole in Nard, it would have been that Nard suddenly "got old". If he lost to Nard, he would have been "nothing but hype".

Personally, I would have preferred he take 2 more top tier fights before stepping in against Nard, but then Nard would have been retired and he would have fought in an eliminator and been a "paper champion".

Do any of people on the "Nard Won" bandwagon think that his statements after this fight might mean that, unlike Nard, he's a nice, humble kid who might actually understand that while he won, he almost folded towards the end, which means that he still needs some tune up to be as great as champion as Nard was? That he mentioned the rematch because he knew that Nard would call for it?

Don't get me wrong. I'm not short-changing Taylor at all. In fact, I think he is the future of the Middleweight division, and a damned fine human being besides.
He was forced by the circumstances I outlined in my previous post to take a fight he was not ready for. He fought hard and worked circles around Hopkins for the best part of 8 rounds before the strain got to him.
Hopkins, for his part, tried to sit back and play games with the kid, like he was trying to psych him out by making Taylor think that he didn't have to fight to keep his belts, hoping that, combined with nerves of his first time on the big stage and having to chase him around the ring, would wear the kid out. It did. Unfortunately for Hopkins, it took 2 more rounds than he needed it to.

The funniest thing to me in the whole affair is all the HBO people saying in the 9th that Hopkins needed a KO to win, then after the scorecards were read, they all acted like Hopkins was ripped off. Hilarious.

I look forward to the rematch. Hopkins will be put in a position where he is forced to fight if he wants his belts back. He needs his belts back if he's going to get the 2 big money fights against Tarver and Jones. The way Hopkins has fought his last 3 fights, I have to wonder if he has it left in him to fight a solid 12 rounds.

Overall, and mostly because Hopkins seemed to be sponsored by Schwinn, this fight was rather a disappointment.

see this kid doesnt have the heart for a champion. Sugar Ray Leonard and Roy Jones said that even if they thought there were beat you NEVER SAY you feel like you lost. I bet u if Jermain would have won easly he would still say hes not sure of himself.

He tried to fight Bernard at the weigh in, you know why? He was doing the same thing as Tyson. He didnt have that passion to be champion so he tried to hype himself up.

Naturally I wasnt disappointed at all cause I was rooting for taylor. Yeah, those nuts on HBO are that way (contradictory) and up til the very end all but Jones had taylor winning CLEARLY!! Maybe they were just as impressed with the last 3-4 rds as Jerry Roth apparently was, which is just crazy. Winning the championship rds is the thing to do and great, etc....but there are 9 other rds first, so going by the 10 pts must system and taylor having possibly won all of the first 8, theres no way Roth could have Hopkins winning..especially by that wide a margin! It honestly reminded me of Glen Hamadas score in Jones-Tarver 1, where he had Jones winning 117-111, which is rediculous! Once these guys hit 60 damn yr's old, they should be replaced or something, cause either their eyesight is very off, or their just too in love with the 'old school' to see the new!

Yall need to watch the tape again because at no point was it apparent or even evident that Merchant or Lampley thought Hopkins won the fight. Kellerman thought Hops perhaps should have gotten it, but he always scores for his faves by a slight margin. Had Mayweather beating Castillo in their first fight I believe.
