He was blacked out for half the count man. Even if he got up, which I felt he wouldn't have done, outcome would have been the same.

Yea that didn't make any sense to me....I mean his eyes were wide open and then the ref pushed him down as he was about to get up lol. I bet that ref would have stopped the Bradley - Holt fight the way Bradley went down

Here's my two cents on this:

There are some actions that are mandated by rules that the ref must adhere to. However, a stoppage is very subjective and the one who truly knows more in regards to how 'bad' the downed fighter is IS the referee. Even the knocked down fighter can't fully assess himself sometimes.

Jacobs was hurt bad..and at first I thought the ref was slightly in the wrong for stopping the fight when he did, but, after seeing the stoppage again, I was more than in favor with his decision.

I've seen when a fighter is knocked down, stays on the floor looking for a count to reach a certain point and makes it obvious that he is going to get up (usually throuh co-herent actions and direct eye contact with the ref). This was not the case lat night. Jacobs was down and completely relaxed because he was knocked out. He flopped down and rolled onto his back. Look at his glare once he's down. He's looking out, not at the referee.

Meldrick Taylor gave a better presentation against Chavez to Richard Steele (that one is still debatable, I know, but it's more credible).

The referee is totally subjective at this point and his prime objective is always the fighter's safety. Someone posted that the fighter should have been allowed to fight on the basis that he may not get another shot again. This is equally true if he is allowed to fight after being knocked down that bad and is hurt to a point where he can no longer fight or can't fight the same. Once again, he may not get another shot again.

And lastly...look at Jacob's reaction in the post fight interview. Sure, as the time he was waved off, he was upset. What fighter likies to lose. But in the interview he was understanding of the situation and seemed to be more pleased to be done with it and get back with his grieving family.

So I say the referee did well and looked for the fighter's welfare as he should have. Good on him.

jacobs would have definitely done the chicken dance if he had tried to get up so the ref saved him the embarrassment.

I'm with you for the most part, but to add to it I would say the outcome would NOT have been different.

As it stands, he is a fighter that was relaxed incredibly (KO) with a punch and lost. As opposed to a fighter who would have been relaxed incredibly, allowed to continue and given more punishment (this time relaxed), and who then lost.

I prefer the middle man be cut out if the end result was inevitable.

GBP ****ed up and didn't prepare Jacobs to fight different styles before putting him in the ring with a vet like Pirog. Jacobs looked confused and lost in the ring. Talent wise his speed and talent is above Pirog but right now Pirog owns him. I would love to see a rematch in 6 months time.
what do you mean vet. The veteran fighter of 16fights before he put the golden kid to sleep. For the first few seconds of the count it looked like jacobs was out cold. Probably why ref didnt finish the count even if he was fine.
