Comments Thread For: Pirog: Jacobs Had No Power; Jacobs: I Never Saw The Shot

If there one remarkable performance on Saturday night at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, it came from Dmitry Pirog (17-0, 14KOs) of Russia, who stopped Daniel Jacobs with a single right hand in fifth round to capture the WBO middleweight title. Priog said none of Jacobs' punches had a lot of power behind them. He saw Jacobs wobble in the second round and knew he could hurt him again. [Click Here To Read More]

Jacobs got owned, but what matters is if he can free himself from it.

DMITRY PIROG LAUNCHED A TOMAHAWK CRUISE MISSILE

That missile almost TOOK JACOBS HEAD OFFBUT WHEN HE WENT

DOWN THE REF DIDNT GIVE HIM A BLOODY CHANCE TO GET UP -

it was the count 4 , 5 then he moved to get up and the ref PUSHED him back

DOWN & iIT WASOUT OF ORDER - yes he was HURT but he might of WEATHERED

THE STORM but we will never EVER KNOW NOW

WHO ELSE THINKS HE SHOULD OF BEEN GIVEN A CHANCE TO GET UP ?

Nah, he was out cold. It just would not have been safe to let it go on. The ref did the right thing and a good job. We'd be saying very differently if he had let it go on and then he got stopped again and was out for the full count. Then we'd be saying the ref should have stopped it after he was out cold the first time etc etc. It was the right call.

Right call by the ref, there was no point risking permanent damage by letting it continue. Pirog looked physically superior and looked like he probably would have stopped him late anyway.

It's a fight, these things happen to the best of them.

Jacobs can learn and grow from this. It's really not a big deal at all at this point in his career.

Pirog knew he was going to stop him the moment he hurt him in the 2nd round. It was ominous. I thought Jacob did a good job in round 3-4 though, he found a way to negate Pirog somewhat. But it was all entirely backfoot stuff, not sure I even saw Jacobs on the back foot before this fight; he was always going to get caught. But at least he tried to switch it up.

It's not that bad of a defeat, not really. Pirog is the vastly more experienced man.
