An undefeated record means shit in boxing if you are not gonna face the best out there. I have much more respect for a losing fighter who takes chances in their careers, rather then an undefeated one taking an easy route to the top.

I hate it when a fighter get's ****ted on after a defeat against a relatively unknown opponent, especially when the opposing fighter goes on to have a good career himself. The Ortiz/Maidana fight comes to mind.

Pirog may be untested at world level, but it's not like Jacobs lost to a journyman. Both men will likely go places, it was just that Pirog was more ready to shine and his time has come sooner.
I blame match making in the sense that Jacobs was in no way prepared for a fighter like this. A match maker should have put him against guys earlier on in his career that would prepare him by giving him certain looks. Only name on Jacobs resume I can think of is Ishe Smith as Ishe gave applied pressure and brought a certain level of toughness that would help Jacobs against future fighters with similar attributes. I personally think its irresponsible to face a guy as awkward as Pirog for the first time on a stage like that. There are plenty of C and D class fighters GBP could have put Jacobs in early on in his career but were content with him facing bums who did nothing for him. This is what separates mediocre match making from great match making.

i think people are over rating a loss on someone's record...

losses are opportunities to learn and build on your weaknesses.

Jacobs has basically had a free run up untill now, and Pirog was a tidy boxer why shouldn't have the fight happen? Jacobs has ran through all his opponents up untill now to be honest.. He stepped up in class and got his ass handed to him, it was going to happen somewhere down the line anyway.

That guys style was all wrong for Jacobs at this point in his career and this is as dumb as the decision to put Ortiz in with hard hitting Maidana (considering Ortiz had issues with his chin in various sparring sessions).

Now I'm not saying to duck these guys or even avoid them all together, rather you build guys up until they are actually ready for these type of opponents. This takes fully knowing what type of fighter you have and where he is at development wise and you just don't randomly pit him against any guy. This is why guys like Trampler and Goodman are the best in the business, and the guys at GBP are pretty much chumps when it comes to building fighters.
After the FNF upsets, it was an interesting weekend.

AS A FAN, you should be happy for this type of matchmaking.

so basically you would rather they have thrown him in with somebody he could beat?

this was meant to be a step up in class for Jacobs and he failed plus his grandmother's death probably affected him more than he knew he's young he will bounce back

i never been too impressed with Jacobs anyway his KO ratio is good because of the caliber of opponent he has been in with never saw anything in him that was remotely special

pirog on the other hand looks like a problem

You people need to make up your minds. You want boxers to be challenged yes or no in order to prove that they have it??
                This is on the money.

People complain that these prospects dont take on enough challenges, then they get caught cold and its the matchmakers fault.

A loss is a loss, The Golden Child can prove more in coming back from this loss than what he could have if he stopped another Juan Astorga.

Whos Mr Astorga you may be thinking? I dont know either, but my friend boxrec told me that was his last opponent.

Exactly! I have said it before, I don't understand why people complain when promoters put their guys in with easy marks, but then complain when promoters actually give their fighters challenges. I thought losses don't matter? If these fighters are truly great they would either win these fights OR learn from them and become better fighters.

I saw no problem with this fight.

At some point, Jacobs needed to step up the quality of opposition he was fighting. It's the only way he can improve as a fighter, so better sooner rather than later.

He can't be fighting tomato cans until he reaches 30???

                    C'mon now, it's just 1 loss. He'll be back.

Jesus man make up your mind.

What the hell is a bad match-up?

                      =A bad cherry pick?

When Golden Boy fighters like Khan gets fed on turds u whine about his cherry picks,

But when fighters like Jabobs don't get a good cherry pick u also whine that he gets a too stronger opponent.
