Perhaps it was Oscar who told Bob? After all, it was Oscar who said quite a mouthful in June that negotiations were progressing rather well while others held mysterious peace.
The later (and recent) excuse that Oscar gave of having been tired when the earlier statement was made looks so limp that one is prodded to focus on what was initially said, the circumstances under which it was said and the number of words that were used to say it. After one has looked at the initial statement closely, one tends to think that "fed up" and "tired" cannot possibly justify.
Compare:
Initial declaration:
"Up until now, it's been a very difficult negotiation process for various reasons, but right now we're very close. We're very close in finalizing the contracts that were once very complicated. The two fighters now realize that this fight must be made. It has to be made because boxing fans want to see it happen and right now it is the biggest fight that can be made in the world. It's going to be a big fight. I think right now we are very very close in finalizing the contracts. I can't talk right now about the negotiations, but I will say that they are very close."
Retraction:
"I think I said it because I got the question asked so many times that I, obviously, was fed up and tired of it and I just said, 'yeah, yeah it's gonna be made.
So, it was a quick answer that I should have, obviously, thought about."
Notice is invited to the repeated assurance that things are "very close" which was repeated four times and the word "negotiation" being mentioned twice. Contrary to Oscar's subsequent claim, the first statement cannot be mistaken for being merely a dismissive, "...yeah, yeah it's gonna be made."
Perhaps, Oscar should do an Arum, in reverse:" Today I am lying, yesterday I was telling the truth." Then, perhaps, most people would understand.
Not to hijack this thread but I want to hear your opinion regarding pacquiao-margarito fight. Unlike other people around here, I think margo is more dangerous than cotto when cotto fought pacquiao. He's got granite chin and may suddenly back to his old self of giving 100 punches per round. This is a **** fight as far as i'm concerned with all that catchweight clause and wbc **** belt at stake.

I'm not prepared to acknowledge that the Margarito who will appear in front of Pacquiao shall be the Margarito who fought Garcia, pal. I'm not even sure that the Margarito who faced Mosley will be similar to who shall be in the ring in November.
The matter of the wraps may have affected his psyche in the Mosley fight and the rather long lay-off could have been a factor in the Garcia bout. I think that given time to prepare physically and mentally, he could do much better. November is a long way off.
Many people call him slow. But everytime I am tempted to agree with that observation, I quickly recall that he holds the Welterweight division record of having thrown the most number of punches in a fight (like you said, over a hundred per round). Over a thousand 400 punches, I think it was. So, he can throw a lot and quickly. But can he hit Pacquiao?
I have to note that he is nowhere near as agile as Pacquiao.
Tony knows how to fight southpaws. He stopped Six Heads Lewis.
I don't think the weight ceiling will affect him all that much. Tony's history riding the weight escalator from welterweight to LightMiddle and back is well documented. For example, I remember that some years back, he faced Daniel Santos at 153 lbs. then three months later went back down to 147 to defend his Welterweight title and TKO'd Sebastian Lujan. Unlike De La Hoya, the weight loss may not slow him down. It didn't in the past.
Tony is just a year older than Manny but has less fights in his resume' although he debuted about a year later than Pacquiao did. I can't say he has a much older fighter's body.
Like you said, bud, Tony has a pretty good chin, tried, tested and confirmed. He has both height and reach going for him. Those too must count for something.
Like you, pal, I can't dismiss this fight outright. Margarito always comes to fight. And, if he gets back the tools that had him avoided by lots of champs for years as well as the right frame of mind, he won't be as easy a picking for Manny as many think.
As for all that noise re belts and all...LOL!!! Oh, well, we fans get stuff like this, don't we? It can be worse, though. Like Ray Leonard winning two belts in two divisions in a single fight. LOL!!!!
Edit/Note: Thanks for the green, pal! I tried sending some back your way but was told I have to spread greens some more. Sorry!
Not so much a scheme as it is separation of powers. This way Scaheffer and Ellerbee can take and pass a lie detecting test if given. Al never talks to the media and if so, can always invoke lawyer client privilege. Since Ellerbee and ODH are mouthpieces its best to keep them out the loop (like we all wish Manny/Bob would do with Koncz).
Again, given Margarito's statement it just feels like both sidess knew a long time ago this fight wasn't happening in Novemeber.
Or maybe like this.....
1.) Arum originally stated that GBP was negotiating with Mayweather, we know that to be the case from the Hoya comments..... GBP was the mediator in-between Team Manny and Team Floyd.
2.) But Arum is tight with Greenburg. And maybe they both suspect that the Mayweather fight could be the end of the road for Manny..... and that BOTH HBO and Top Rank could double their revenue over the next 12 months with Manny vs Margarito >> Cotto >> Mayweather..... rather than just Manny vs Mayweather.
3.) But they dont want to jeopardise the Mayweather fight, and they cant afford to trust GBP, or include them..... so Greenburg approach's Team Mayweather and confirms a huge offer for a future event, and pay's some step-aside money to secure Floyd for a date down the line
4.) On the day that the deadline expired, Arum actually provided some justification for Mayweather choosing not to fight this year, which seemed bizarre at the time.
5.) GBP go WTF? They haven't heard from Mayweather, and yet Arum suddenly states that Ross Greenburg has been attempting to make a Pacquiao/Mayweather fight
6.) Of course, Team Mayweather deny that official negotiations actually took place, which is why Schaefer is so firm on his position
Look deeper, my friends. Arum has a date (Nov 13) with HBO which needs to be sold to the public. The public is being unforgiven, in that they would prefer Manny and Floyd. Floyd is taking the rest of the year off...Greenburg has to make a profit to please his boss (Shareholders). This means they have to find some rationale to sell the Margarito fight to the public, which means they have to make it seems as if they have exhausted all effort in trying to make a fight with Floyd, to warm the public up to Manny and Margarito.
Greenburg has a lot to loose if Manny and Margarito Fail.....HBO purchased the TV rights! Regardless, CEOs still have bosses-the shareholders and HBO is still a For-profit entity.

Hey ol' buddy, just saw your name in some thread a while ago so I remember asking you this question and look for this thread. I was waiting for your reply the other day but I had somewhere else to go. Thanks for that awesome reply.

Glad to do it, ol' freind. Though "awesome" is much too generous , I'll take it. LOL!!!
I understand, bud. No big deal. Often it takes time for me to reply too...Fact is, it seems to happen in my case much more often than it does to you.
