I think Miguel Cotto is just as much of a legitimate opponent as Shane Mosley was.

Mosley was number 1 WW and had a more impressive showing against Margarito than any top level fight Cotto has had so I disagree.

I wouldn't mind Cotto v Mayweather if it meant May vs Pac next year. TBH I want to see Mayweather back in action, hopefully its either Cotto/Berto/Martinez/Williams.

I agree 100%. What does beating Cotto prove at this point?

Theres really no reason to fight Cotto at all, Berto & Williams are kinda it right now. Life has to go on, we all knew that 0 days and 60/40 was the number and we knew Arum and Manny would say no to both. Cotto would be a name and nothing more in that fight.

Cotto Vs Mosley II (Outside of NY) would be a good fight for both to me. I'd buy it.

Cotto is a dead man walking when talking about a potential fight with Floyd Mayweather.. Seriously, I am really oppose to this fight. There is no argument I will accept or want to hear as to why this fight should happen.

                My answer is "NO"

I have been reading a few articles and a few threads trying to hype this bout up...and I genuinely feel and think this match up to be completely absurd..!

No Real Mayweather fan "IMO" should want this fight.
With Mayweather fighting in his last days of his career, I do not want to see him fight the likes of Miguel Cotto when he should be focusing on trying to make a Manny Pacquiao fight happen.
The only top rank fighter I want to see Mayweather fight is Manny Pacquiao.. the rest of those guys is worthless when talking about a potential match-up with Mayweather,

FIGHT Manny Pacquiao or Leave Top Rank alone is my belief, there is no other reason to deal with Bob Arum unless it has to do with Pacquiao.
Win or Lose on November 13th. I want to see Mayweather vs. Pacquiao
next year. Not Mayweather vs. Cotto/Margarito/ any other top rank fighter...

For Floyd to say he's not even thinking about boxing, then he makes a fight with Cotto? Another TR fighter? That would be a ***** move. Hope it doesn't happen.

                  thats why it is important.

Too me Cotto wouldnt win round and shouldnt win a round.

Cotto does nothing in terms of boxing better than Juan M. Marquez. to say he will be a tougher fight for floyd than JMM.. just based on Size and Power

Just like Ricky Hatton did nothing in terms of boxing better than Juan M. Marquez to say he will be a tougher fight for Pacquiao than JMM just based on Size and Power

Just like John Ruiz did nothing in terms of boxing better than Tarver to say
he will be a tougher fight for Roy Jones just based on Size and Power

When will you guys learn size doesnt always win fights...
Skills win fights. brains win fights, experience wins fights...

and JMM beats cotto in all of those departments.

SO can someone explain how stylistically cotto is a tougher fight for Floyd than JMM?

I say JMM style gives floyd more trouble. for the simple fact that he is more versatile

size and power will not beat floyd?

when has that ever worked against floyd?

Zab Judah showed you that a fighter who has some kind of skill set will give floyd trouble.

Carlos Baldomir showed you that you will need more than size to beat floyd
Deigo Corralles showed you that you will need more than power to beat floyd
Oscar De la hoya showed you that you will need more than size and power to beat floyd.

So with that said...what chance does cotto have.
Maybe at one time the pound for pound list was solely based on skills(I doubt it). It's a ranking system based on skills, quality and name recognition of opposition, and popularity. What you basically have a highly subjective ranking system based on assumption and speculation.

We have so called boxing experts that can't even pick the outcome of actual fights and you're telling me I'm supposed to trust their judgement in fantasy fights with fighters from different divisions. It's all bull**** used as a promotional tool more than anything.

You kind of shoot yourself in the foot with the Hatton theory. According to you, compared to Marquez, Hatton has nothing but size and power, yet he was able to give Mayweather a tougher fight(while it lasted) than Marquez. So you've basically given us an example where power and size can make a difference over skills.

dude you fight the people around you who are considered the best, Cotto is one of those people regardless of your' or other's perception of how the fight will go down, its all speculation till the bell rings and someone's glove is raised at the end. That's boxing baby.

Here's the thing it's all speculation from the outside. God I hate to defend GAyfeather here but we know about as much regarding the "terms of the pac vs may contract" as we do about the supposed talks that took place between Cotto and Floyd. I could post something like Cotto headed to dancing with the stars, asks Floyd for advice... just as believable as all the other speculation. If people want to be outraged be outraged because a guy who recently got caught and cant get a license stateside is now getting ready to cash in on a title shot with the number one fighter in the sport for a frikkin vacant WBC title, completely absurd and not speculation.
