The only reason Floyd is fighting Cotto is because PBF is in Puerto Rico right now. Once he leaves, he won't mention Cotto again. The island is just too far.

That's your opinion on Cotto, but again, in Boxing we've seen the unthinkable, and I'm not saying Cotto is going to be #1 P4P, but you have to consider how things do change in Boxing and how it effects match making. You may say Mayweather simply beats the piss out of Cotto now, but what if Floyd loses to Pacquiao when they eventually fight? and loses very decisively (i.e. KO, TKO, etc)? If Cotto is still winning at that point (which at least by 2012 he'd only be 31-32), how would a Cotto vs Mayweather (who'd be 34-35) fight not be a good fight for Mayweather then? It's a fight that's never been made and both still would be top draws in the sport.

Does the fight makes sense right now? Of course not. Does that mean it won't happen in 2-3 yrs? Definitely not. And both Mayweather and Cotto fans will buy the PPV without question.

Cotto and Mayweather can fight 100 fights in a row. "IMO" in out of those 100 fights between Him and Mayweather..

He would not win 1 fight. He just isnt built to win against a fighter like Mayweather.

The fight doesnt interest me. Knowing what I know about Cotto.

The only way this fight is acceptable is if Cotto somehows knocks out Margarito, and Pacquiao within 5 rounds in back to back fights..
and he wins the rematches... then I can Justify to myself this fight is credible. because obviously at that point cotto change something drastically in his fighting style. Because as of right now, he doesnt have the ability to do what is required for him to be a credible opponent in my eyes,

But ****-defense Cotto would be target practice for Floyd. A guy who conveniently stopped going to the body once his opposition got better(Margarito, Pacquiao, Clottey) because his defense is too **** to get close enough to go to the body successful. And you're gonna get close enough to Floyd without getting hit with left hooks and rights all day?

Cotto never had a chance against Mayweather. Prime, peak, damaged, shot, it doesn't matter which version. I was never interested in this match up. Especially after what Judah did to Cotto's face even in his losing effort and more than 400 days away from the ring due to a suspension from the Mayweather low blow thing.

Now that Cotto is now in the spotlight and boxing is looking towards him to replace Floyd. He has left himself no room to grow as a fighter...


No More Unproven Contenders Like Gomez,
No More Past their Prime Old Fighters Mosely in which He barely Wins..
No More fighting non active fighters like Judah
He now has to fight Prime,Active, Young , P4P, Highly ranked Fighters....
There is no more grace time.....The Time is Now....
And His First Test is Margarito....
Remember Cotto has never had to beat a Champion For his Title...He has always fought fellow contenders for vacant titles....

I have been seeing this coming though, but the commentators on HBO are just commenting on the good things they see. Instead of the little things he does wrong that champions will see and will counter, and will not miss. He still gets hit a lot, and wastes a lot of punches. Sometimes he punches from too far out and leaves gaps where he can be countered or beaten to the punch.

and Margarito will Probably show how can he handle being hurt by somebody who can finish the job
And all those fighters all had defaults in their game....Either they were too old, primes their prime, not active before fighting him, or basic contenders.....

Margarito is not past his prime, he is active before fighting cotto, and he is not a contender.

Margarito is a fighter, Fighters like Cotto and Williams get credit for.

Steward,Merchant and Lampley make and made Cotto out to be some phenom, because he's KO'd a bunch of lightweights, contenders,and Past their prime fighters
when they know he's starving to make the weight.

I am not saying Cotto doesn't have a chance against Prime Young P4P Fighters
but he still might be too green to face the guy that His Fans and Arum are expecting Cotto to now fight.
He still has very good skills, power, and a lot of heart, that will keep in the fights. Unfortunately, he still gets hit a lot, and wastes a lot of punches.
