Boxing has it's own peculiar types of fans that are different from other
sportsfans. Many people could be classified in several categories.

Here they are in no particular order.

    1. Diehards: Follows many boxers, but has a particular favorite. Loves the
sport of boxing and will watch any fight but likes to root for their favorite
boxer. Has gone to see many boxing fights in person and will not miss a big
fight. This fan supports their favorite boxer and doesn't get pissed and dump
    them if they lose.

    2. The experts - A hardcore fan who watches every boxing fight that comes on and
can tell you who won between two guys on a Tuesday night fight show from the
early 90s. This die-hard fan can tell you 90% of the current champions and top
contenders in every weight class from memory and has an awe inspiring collection
    of fights on tape.

    3. Fantasy fans - To them boxing is all about a fantasy world filled with all
time top 10 lists and matching up Ali vs. Marciano and Dempsey vs. Tyson. Real
matches are boring for these folks who would rather play imaginary boxing.

    4. Old fogies - Is an older person who may know boxing rather well, but feels
every boxer nowadays sucks compared to the old time boxers.

    4. Sadists - These are people who don't really like sports and the only sports
they enjoy are boxing and UFC type events. They just love to see "mother****as
get knocked out" and have no appreciation for the sport or the technique
involved in boxing. Enjoy discussions of "worst beatings" and feel no sympathy
for boxers who suffer terrible damage in the sport.

    5. Ethnic fans - these are people who only like a boxer because of their
    ethnic/regional/national identity.

    6. Conspiracy theorists - these fans believe there is a fix or some sort of
    conspiracy behind every major fight.

    7. Casual fans - Typically a person who only tunes in for a Mike Tyson fight.
Basically a person who can name maybe 3 or 4 boxers but has no idea who is
champion in more than one or two weight classes. Feels boxing is a corrupt
sport but enjoys the spectacle and competition of a big matchup. May be a fan
of many other sports and could become a regular boxing fan but thinks it's too
    confusing and corrupt.

    8. Fan - Follows sports and likes boxing as a sport. Knows the major
champions, watches the big fights but may miss some fights and rarely goes to
fights in person. Doesn't bother to read boxing discussion groups.

    9. Haters - Very angry and mean spirited, these fans hate most star boxers and
put down champion boxers all the time. They cannot bring themselves to say nice
things about many boxers and instead critique every single mistake the champ
makes but will never stop watching the boxer or give credit. May go to a fight
to boo at a boxer. Always thinks anyone who likes the star boxer is an idiot
and directs anger toward them as well.

    10. Dummies - A dim-witted fan that cannot see obvious things and refuses to
acknowledge obvious facts. Unable to accurately see winners and losers in
decisions and cannot accurately predict any fights. Often out of touch with
what has been happening in boxing and relies on news articles instead of viewing
    fights.

    11. Whiners - These are one of the most annoying kinds of fans to deal with.
They have an excuse for everything and will never give credit to a fighter who
    wins."-Newsgroups: rec.sport.boxing

I think I am eithe a diehard fan, but I have only been to one fight card in person.

definitely a die hard fan cause i never dump a fighter that i like a lot for any reason. ive supported judah through everything, same with tyson over and over when a lot of people turned their backs on zab after the zoo fight and then again afte rpineda and spinks 1 i kept on saying the same thing "that he would come back and destroy everyone and he would knock spinks out and rule the division" and look what happened. yeah i was wrong about tyson but that doesnt make me like him anymore. same with anyone i like who has lost like jones people turned on him after the tarver and johnson fights but ill keep on hoping he comes back to destroy them and anyone else. people also turn their backs on ****y fighters which is redicilous anyway i like ti when thyere ****y. i defintiely have favorite fighters that i root for in each fight.

also i could be considered a expert fan. cause yeah i can remember anything from any fight pretty much and also have a ton of fights on tape.

I consider myself an expert. I watch every fight I possibly can and read a lot about boxing, but I don't get to any fights.

I also use it as a visual guide for to see what can and cannot be done in a one on one fight between two individuals. I know that boxing is not street fighting, but it's interseting to see what a couple of foot movements, head movements and well placed punches can do to a person. I think that is some good **** to know...So I am a diehard boxing fan at it's purest form. When I watch boxing on Telemundo, I don't even turn the sound down anymore!!!!
I dont either, and my wife thinks Im ******ed for watching boxing that is in spanish...I dont care...fights are fights. Im a lot like you...Im a die hard fan with some of the others mixed in...and now that I can truely say "Im in the business" I see boxing from a whole new perspective. The sport of boxing is a brutal sport inside and outside the ropes. The fighters are warriors just like I thought they were before being a part of boxing. My dad and I used to watch fights when I was a boy and that is where I began my love affair with boxing. I was turning from boy to man during the Tommy Hearns Sugar Ray Leonard Marvin Hagler Roberto Duran era and when I was little it was the Ali, Foreman Frazier Norton era...I have seen 2 great era's in my lifetime so far and Im waiting for the 3rd. I guess you could say that right now its the ODH, Vargas, PBF, Gatti, Trinadad, Mosley era but for some reason it just doesnt FEEL the same. Long live boxing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Somewhere between a FAN and DIEHARD.. but really all those could be listed into 2 groups.. HEAD fans and HEART fans.. people who use their heads are able to spot faults in their favorite fighters say things LIKE IMO.. Heart fans cant see fault in the fave fighters.. call people who disagre with them haters and take criticisim of their fighters as a personal attack.. And cant seem to grasp that their OPINION is not fact
