GREAT CALL! I think that Team Cotto is learning from Team Vargas' mis-handlings, there's no reason to rush your fighter into a mega-event at an early age, let the kid keep improving vs. B and C fighters before the mega-buck events.....think how awesome Vargas coulda been if he hadn't goten demolished by Tito in 2000, he'd be a totally different prizefighter at this point, now he's somethin like 27 yrs old and already punch-drunk and at a crossroads....

Kudos to Team Cotto, he should fight cats like Branco, maybe Chop again, maybe Harris, THEN look for the big grits vs. Floyd or Zab or Margarito, but NOT YET!

Honestly theres no reason why he should be rushed into fighting every big name if he's not ready. Maybe some guys like Tszyu and Fenech were ready for that, but some guys would like to get a strong base of different opponents under their belt before they fight the elite.

I would like to see him fighting the Mayweathers, Hattons, and Witters of the division too but if they want to move him along slowly then I won't flip my lid over it. Enjoying the ride is part of the fun.

Oh please. Theres a big BIG differance in trhowing a kid in with Tito and just having him fight top ten guys. Cotto will learn absoulutley nothing by fighting guys like Branco. He's already had 24 pro fights combined with 100's of amature fights at the highest level. A guy like Branco will show him niothing he hasn't seen already.

Plus people forget that Vargas was not rushed into his fight with Tito. If he wasn't ready by then he never would have been ready. Vargas already owned wins over Winky Wright, Ike Quartey, Yori Boy Campas and Raul Marquez. Vargas had practically cleaned out the entire division already.

the way top rank has managed cotto is perfect. they saw his qualities early n slowed him into it. sosa went the distance with floyd, but cotto TKO'd him. same with corely, (even though cotto was hurt in that fight). but i mean the maanagement is smart. they took a mental aspect to it to, making him beat the last man who ever beat him (abdulaev). n there was no money against harris, tht fight would suck. harris aint popular. thers sum guys tho that have been on HBO n who ppl already know. corely, sosa, branco, or ppl at least know lovemore ndou.

n branco went the distance with gatti. so if cotto Ko's him, its another + on his list

ye i thought i'd mention this to.
vargas is a warrior we know that. but look he started off very young n wanted the big stuff early. he beat winky its all good. same with campas and also quartey. but winky wasn't as much as a smart fighter then as he is now. n campas jus has a chin man. he faces tito gets KD twice in first minute. giveh im creedit he fought back but fell short. then with DLH i think he has stamina problems but w/e, n he was wobbled bloodied but he took it as hard as he can u know. but ye look hes still wat 26 or sumin, not old. but he already has 2 losses on his record. n with the 2 biggest fights in his career he has lost.

he has sum impressive victories no doubt . but when u have good wins, also with lsoses, the lossses stand out

Fighting all the bums in the world won't prepare Cotto for Floyd.

Do you know a guy by the name of Erick "El Terrible" Morales? He had 26 pro fight b4 fighting Zaragoza (55-7-3) for the WBC Super Batamweight title and he's doing pretty well right now...

I agree. I have no problem with a fighter taking it slow, but if he fights five guys in a row who are on the same level, what would he get from that? I want to see him fight another 140lb. fighter who is at his level of talent..
