Morales or Barrera .. Take your pick

These two future Hall of Fame fighters both have awsome legacys and have beaten top competion. With three fantasic fights between them they have created one of the best trilogys in boxing today. But my question is.. When its all said and done who is going to be remembered as the greater figher?

Morales will, he defeated the tougher competition and 2 fighters that Barrera couldnt beat.

Barrera. Because he de throned Hamed, and holds a win over the all time great Johnny Tapia. Regardless of his age at the time of the fight, he was on a win streak and fighting very well. Not to mention Barrera beat Morales twice as well as holds wins over:

      Enrique Sanchez
      Jesus Salud
      Kennedy Mckinney

and has derailed plenty of up and coming fighters such as Luis Freitas, and generally has beat a better level of opposition IMO.

Its arguable, but I think Barrera has a better legacy.

Morales all the way baby! Barrera may have beaten Erik twice, but they were both razor thin losses and Barrera has been smoked by the likes of Pacquiao and Junior Jones. Erik has never lost big to anybody, he fights nothting but big fights (Barrera fights the likes of Fana) and has one of the most impressive resume's in boxing. Don't look now, but when Morales is done with his career boxing will look back at him as one of the top five fighters of all time pound for pound, you wait and see.

PS- Barrera is good to, but complimenting him would ruin my post and dillude my point.

I agree, altough I'm a huge fan of Barrera, Morales has beaten tougher competition. Both are sure shots for the HOF.

The third match between Barrera/Morales was not razor thin by any means. Like Lampley said "Marco Antonio Barrera is seperating himself from Erik Morales". I agree that Morales is greater, but Barrera did win by clear cut decision in that third meeting.

Did I give Barrera the win? Certainly! But to say it was not really close? Come on man, it was a matter of a round or two at most, and even then every round was close-- exactly as you have come to expect from these guys. I even saw one broadcast where the people doing the commentating scored the fight a draw! If these guys fight again I still pick Erik to win the fight.

For the record i scored MAB vs EM III 7-5 for Barrera.

I think Morales didnt look like himself from the get go but he managed to come back in purts through the fight.

I also scored the fight 7-5, but that is just my point! One of those rounds lets say Morales lands a few punches more and Barrera a few punches less and we are talking one more round for Erik and one less for Barrera and a 6-6 score. What does that make? A draw. So while Barrera certainly one, it was also a close fight.

In any event-- as I said my pick is Morales, and the guys is still young and has shown the quality to bounce back from rough fights so I epect continued big things from him.

Morales is going to be a serious legend by the time his career is over, as long as he knows when to stop moving up in weight. I'm not exactly a fan of his, but I can recognize talent and accomplishments.
