And therein lies the rub.....we don't know, and we can't be sure with any kind of certainty. This is yet another reason boxing lacks credibility (think home town cooking and inept (if not corrupt judging). PED's are illegal, yet the testing procedures in place in most juristictions are virtually non-existent. The stakeholder's have made the decision that PED's are illegal. That decision needs to be enforced to uphold the integrity of the sport, otherwise what's the point? USADA style testing for all championship fights and randomly as selected by them enhances the sport's credibility. How many do you think will run the gauntlet after the first one get's banned for 2 years in the United States?
A young AFL player here in Australia today tersted positive for Steroids. He got a two year ban. He plays in a state league, not the national legue.....but was on his way. This effectively sets him back enourmously or potentially destroys his career entirely. How 19 year olds are going to take the risk after seeing that happen. Boxing's a joke. Margarito get's a one year ban for loded gloves and comes back and is on the vegre of scoring a big fight. What kind of msg does that send?Comment

Wait... are people here really questioning whether performance-enhancing drugs that increase stamina, strength and muscle recovery might significantly improve a boxer's training and performance??? Like, if two versions of the same fighter met in the ring-- one who had used PEDs like EPO throughout camp and one who hadn't, you really don't think the one who used PEDs would have a significant physical advantage over the other? That's either nonsensical or dishonest trolling.Comment

I have never taken steroids and probably never will but Im just saying i can understand why some pro athletes would.Comment

Honestly if i was a pro boxer that needed an slight edge to be pushed from mediocrity into making millions or a college football player that needed to step up his game in order to get into the nfl I would probably take steroids.
Im not defending it or saying its right but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. So its hard for me to label some pros as scumbags or embaressments cause that would make me a hypocrite. And therein lies the rub.....we don't know, and we can't be sure with any kind of certainty. the world isn't fair, and if drugs were legal we wouldn't have all this bs.
I am not under any illusions that boxing can be more popular by drug testing.
With better judges and better fights yes. Perhaps with more corporate sponsorship yes.
With Orwellian drug testing, NO.Comment

Try overtraining with synthetic EPO, testostrone and steroids running through your veins. You're muscles won't fatigue, and when they do they will recover quicker.
It's naive to think PED's somehow won't help your performance in this sport. Imagine a Jermain Taylor or Zab Judah who doesn't gas because they used EPO for ten weeks before the fight-----> they may win a fight they otherwise lose.
a) so your muscles wont fatigue, but they will?!?!?!
b) false, EPO will not make you train harder, both JT and Zab have stamina issues because they have poor conditioning habits and their heart/mind can be questioned... EPO will not change their dedication and heart... and w/o that it wont matter at allComment

Why can't everything be legal, then we can see if the guy with better skill wins or not.
Your problem is no two fighters are the same so the comparison doesn't work.
We can't make someone fight themselves. They only do that in private. LOL.Comment

I am not gonna comment on the Margarito thing because it's a different beast, but the clear message for everything else is ,
the world isn't fair, and if drugs were legal we wouldn't have all this bs.

I think it's hilarious that people here are naive enough to believe there is a drug test out there that will clean up the sport.
Floyd Landis admittedly beating WADA style drug testing during and outside of competition for years before being caught. He admitted to taking EPO boosters along with synthetic hormones... for years... and was beating those ****** blood and urine tests every single time.
If there is a new test, there will be a new way to beat it.
When there is a 100% unbeatable test, let me know.
Until then asking fighters to give up their privacy and invest money into a testing system that only makes cheating more inconvenient is pretty ******.Comment

the rules will only change after the game has... its a cycle
when **** is illegal, only cheaters will use it... if its all legal, the playing field is LEVEL and the best end result is possible!Comment

Again, if I was making millions it wouldnt be to hard of a decision to make. Yes I would be conning some fans but that doesnt mean their life is ruined or anything.
