Is British boxing journalism dead?

The UK newspaper The Independent has just published an article under the headline: "Klitschko makes Haye bide his time", in which it pretends that Haye wanted to fight Wlad this year but that Wlad snubbed him!!!

Similar articles have appeared in most other British newspapers, and not one UK journalist has told the truth about what really happened.

Steve Bunce, Britain's best-known so-called boxing journalist has been openly supporting the idea that Haye should fight Audley Harrison, rather than fighting a top 20 Heavyweight.

I posted the following as a comment in the online version of The Independent's article:

This article is hilariously biased. The headline should have been "Haye makes Klitschko bide his time". Wlad Klitschko got the IBF's permission to have a unification fight with Haye before fighting his mandatory against Povetkin. He then offered Haye a 50/50 purse split and no options, which is a far better deal than Haye deserves, given his resume at Heavyweight - but Haye turned it down - and Adam Booth actually told Klitschko to fight Povetkin before Haye.

There is absolutely no chance that Haye will fight either Klitschko this year - he is clearly trying to cash out for as long as possible with easy money making fights against second rate opponents, because he knows that once he does fight either Klitschko, he'll be knocked out. The sad thing is that the British media are still acting as his cheerleader. British boxing journalism appears to be dead. Real journalists do not act as cheerleaders.

My question is: are there any boxing journalists left in the UK? Or are they all simply cheerleaders for British fighters?

According to some East LA locals, Oscar De La Hoya’s “Golden Boy” moniker has a double meaning unknown to the majority of the public. Some East Los Angeles residents have come forward and shared their knowledge regarding the sordid past of Oscar de la Hoya and his well-known nickname:

Julio An Contreras, East Los Angeles:

“I seen him a couple of times back in high school. He was one mean ese homes. He was always bragging about how he was this boxer and he could kick anyone’s ass in the school. He would always pick on the white kids. If he liked your girl, he would kick your ass in front of her. After he would beat up a kid, he would start pissing all over him. His piss was always really bright yellow and stunk because he took vitamins. Most of us here are Mexican and our parents did not have money for vitamins. Oscar would always brag and **** that he was better than other Mexicans because he took vitamins. After he beat up a few freshmen and peed on them, people started calling him “golden boy,” you know, like golden shower. I was glad when he left the school. He definitely wasn’t the nice guy he is now; he was mean to the core and didn’t give a ****. Now he gives out turkeys and stuff on Thanksgiving but before he was different.”

“I never went to Garfield High but I am from East L.A and I have heard the stuff about Oscar beating kids up. Most people don’t know it but that ese was known as Golden Boy before he was even popular. He was a real gangster and would beat you up if he liked your girl. I heard he once beat up this skinny black guy from Crenshaw, called him a n***er and then started pissing all over him like R Kelly. I don’t know if his piss was bright yellow because I wasn’t there.”

Gavin Evans actually said that David Haye was the fastest heavyweight since Muhammad Ali.



I'm sure there are good boxing writers in the UK as well though. Some of the best insight I've heard from boxing writers in the UK come on smaller websites or even forums, it's a shame that some of the best stuff out there is unread for the most part and we get laughable statements (like the one about Haye above) from the more well known writers. That's not just a UK thing.

Boxing coverage in news papers in normaly poor and biased, but i find newspaper's in general biased on what ever subject they print.
