Holy cow, this coming from a Spinks fan of all people! Mad props for calling Oscar out on his acting job.

But what about Spinks in the Mayorga fight. Mayorga put him down at least once, maybe two times, but Spinks conveniently slipped and slided his way through the 12th to grab a victory. Shameful performance by Spinks if you ask me.

I heard a liver shot (which is an organ for those who dont know) is worse than a shot to the balls with no cup (since your balls is also an organ.) So i cant say if the shot hurt or not. If you look at the shot at full speed where the camera is behind B-Hop, the shot looks vicious (you can even listen to it).

And i dont know how some people say Oscar is a punk for not getting up. None of ya would even get in the ring against a prize fighter, so how are ya judging a guy like Oscar De La Hoya whos a champion.

Are you joking? I'd definitely get in the ring with Hopkins for 6 million!

It was a liver shot, and having been hit in the liver once I guarantee that not a single one of the tough guys posting in this thread would have gotten up.

If Bernard had been suddenly KO'd it would be pretty suspect...but Oscar was SUPPOSED to lose by KO. I am a staunch Hoya supporter and I knew he was gonna be KO'd. Oscar deserves big respect for taking that fight.

Good Call, Oscar is getting a bad rap for that fight, we should praise him for even being in the ring with a guy who was bigger, taller, stronger, and had better reflexes...look at Oscar's opponent list: Chavez, Magoo, Tito, Sugar Shane, Ike, Nando, and B-Hop; easily the best level of competition compared to any other active fighter....and that body shot was definitely legit, it happened so fast that people didn't realize how damaging the blow was

Yep. Watch it again in slo-mo, and you can see his body ripple from the force of the impact. More importantly, though, it didn't need to be delivered with a lot of force as long as it landed accurately. If you get hit with a perfectly placed liver shot, you are DONE no matter how tough you are.

Listen. Oscar taking a dive just doesn't make sense for him financially. It doesn't make sense given the context of the fight (he could not have known that a win was more or less completely out of reach on the scorecards). It doesn't make sense given everything we know about Oscar (he has never been a quitter). It just doesn't make any sense at all.

I think Oscar just quit, he didn't want to get beat in the next 4 rounds like Joppy did. Hopkins is more dangerous in the later rounds.

Noone is dis*****g that it is just that a liver shot immobilizes an individual but somehow Oscar rolled around and pounded like a baby and didnt even attempt to stand up.

I dont think the punch was a fluke, I dont think the fight was fixed I just think Oscar had no desire to get up.

Fuego-What you posted was totaly irrelevant, in the Mayorga fight Spinks boxed his way to a victory. knockdown or not Mayorga was deducted points and had Cory's jab in his face all night long. Boxing is a sport with technique and skill if you are looking for brawlers go watch a toughman contest in some bar. Just because people wanted Mayorga to win and wanted to see him throw wildly and knock Spinks out cold, it doesnt always work that way. Spinks clearly beat Mayorga. Mayorga cant deal with a jab and someone who is quick on their feet.

That is noway relevant to the topic at hand so quit trying to take personal shots. Oscar got hit with a punch went down and rolled around and wasnt "out of it" but instead chose to slam his fists than attempt to stand up. I dont question the punch or the fight, I question Oscar's desire and heart in that particular fight.

If you have watched enough fights and been in the gym enough you know that the way Oscar acted is pretty consistent with how people act when they have taken a shot to the liver. You can still easily move your arms but the rest of your body says "**** this ****, we're done". I've seen a guy try to get up crawling around the ring after taking a body shot. He just couldn't get up. I do think that Hopkins and De La Hoya had a side bet on the fight If hopkins won he got to be partner in Golden Boy Promotions...if he lost the golden boy got to give him his golden rod.
