Punch resistance tends to deteriorate faster when your fighting heavyweights not to mention when you drop 21 lbs at an advanced age.

      This video explains it nicely:

Benn lost to Malinga and retired in the ring.

Jones's people were at the fight and were there to make a deal with Benn, but he lost.

At that point it would have been an easy night for Roy who was still prime, and Benn wasnt the same after McClellan.
Yet Benn when he was younger wasnt just a big puncher. It was his will and heart that won him the fight against McClellan.
Benns chin may have let him down against Roy's sharp shooting, but he would of been a real threat to anyone who could be hurt.

roy woulda knocked benn out in less then 3 rounds

Because Roy wouldn't agree to a 50/50 split and Benn wouldn't agree to take a test til the day of the fight that isn't required by the comission. Oh wait a minute my bad wrong thread.

                Does anyone know why?

                Was Don King involved?
Recognising that independence was the most important thing implanted in Jones by his father, the Levins came in on the strict understanding that no promoter would be given options of future contests. Thus the impasse that exists between Jones and Benn, who is under contract to Frank Warren and Don King. "I'll fight Benn any time," Jones said last year when meeting British boxing writers in Atlantic City shortly before Lennox Lewis defeated Tommy Morrison. "Tell me where he is and I'll go and see him. If Benn wants this fight then he's got to understand that I won't sign away anything to the people who promote him. It's that simple."
Ken Jones on the IBF super-featherweight champion, considered by many to be the best fighter pound-for-pound in the world, who is considering a career in basketball

Roy Jones reportedly had an agent at the Benn - Malinga bout to
offer Nigel a unification bout. Of course, this was out
of the question following the Judges' decision - and if Benn
fails on July 6 this match, which he wants so badly, will be out
                of the question for good.
Q: "Do you think Nigel Benn would come out of retirement to fight you?"

Jones: "Benn's coming out of retirement to fight Stevie Collins, who he lost to in his last fight. I don't think he'll beat Collins, but I will be fighting, hopefully, Stevie Collins next year too."

Q: "Did you have plans to fight McClellan before he got hurt?"

Jones: "Yeah, in fact, I was gonna fight the winner of that fi ght. But when Benn won, Don didn't want to do that because D on doesn't totally have Benn. Him an d Fr ankie Warren had Benn together, so Do n King didn't want to make that fight.

                DI: "What about Nigel Benn?"

Jones: "If he beats Collins, sure."

I dont think HBO offered Benn any money, he was retired by the time of the Brannon fight, where Jones claimed to made offers to the other smw fighters.

Its more than likely a combination of that being towards the end of Benn's career and Don King and Frank Warren not being too eager to put it on cos of what Roy said about not signing anything away.

                      Would Benn have beaten RJJ?

With or without Roy taking roids?
