The poll results only show peoples bias. I'd expect the fight to do more than 1 mil. HBO and other advertisers would be more willing to invest money in advertising. Thats what some people forget. HBO and other advertisers didn't feel they would not make a good return on their investment so they didn't do a 24/7 for pac nor did other regional advertisers (foxspots, MSG). Addditionally, you have the 100k or so who buy hoping to see floyd lose.

Pac is a great draw. That he can make 700 k vs clottey is exceptional. But floyd sells more. Just deal with it.

    • The way Floyd has hyped himself up, no one would pay to see him fight Clottey....abismal numbers would be generated. Floyd would get torn apart in the media for that fight but Pac, being the smaller man and new to the weight class, generated decent numbers given the situation because people just wanted to see what would happen........and the Cowboys stadium helped a lot. Had the Pac fight been held in the MGM, it would have done crap numbers as well.

So Floyd sells more just by being Floyd????

Why would they need to advertise at all then?? Pac did 700K sales with no advertising.....had they kicked in the 24/7 and all, you don't think it could have broken a mil??

Why do so many people continue to buy floyd's fights?

Do you see my point. Companies dont necessarily invest in Pac. I get your point. A 24/7 means more viewers. But it costs serious money to produce the 24/7. That show has to have good ratings too. Manny may be a great fighter, that doesnt mean he would be great on TV.

Its no diss to Pac. Floyd has put in place an excellent marketing strategy that yields big numbers. Floyd sells for any number of reasons. I think he sells because he is a master technician in the ring and a flamboyant a$$hole out of it.

Some to see him because they like him but some tune in to see him lose. Realistically, he does not sell much more than Pac does in PPV events given the same partners. Sure he sells a bit more but I think it is because people assume that when Floyd fought those guys (i.e; Hatton,DLH), he would be more competitive than Pac because Pac was coming from such a lower weight division.

I did not buy Pac vs. Hatton nor Pac vs. DLH for the same reasons, hence my assumption. I think now, people feel Pac is a legit WW so he is being held to a higher standard as Mayweather is.

Schaefer was quoted as expecting upwards of 4 mill buys for May/Mosley but it did not even break 2 mil, he is not this mega draw people make him out to be, his partners have a lot to do with it as in the case with Pac as well.

No, I agree with what you are saying that Floyd is a more stable investment and his persona makes people love him and hate him. I am just saying that put in the same situation (fighting a relative unknown in Clottey) with no 24/7 and given the fact that people only expect Floyd to fight the best competition, that PPV would not do mega numbers based soley on the fact that Floyd is fighting. I'd stream that fight, I would not pay 60 dollars for that, no way.

Actually he is a mega draw. His ppv avg is better than anyone except tyson and ODH. ODH biggest ppv # was against floyd, twice as much as the ww unification vs. an undefeated trinidad.

You have to be objective. He sells MUCH more than pac. Over their last 2 fights he has sold about 500k more ppvs. At 49.95 a pop thats $25 mil. His live gates a larger too. Meaning people pay more too see him fight.

Again, pac has great talent but floyd has talent and charisma. Maybe its because pac is not an american and can't sell fights as well because of the language barrier. I'm sure if we were in the philipines it would be the other way around.

But HBO would do a 24/7 for floyd in any fight because he has proven to get big ratings. 24/7 is really like a 4 week sitcom if you think about it. Not many guys can make each week worth watching. ODH got boring, hatton got boring, marquez ****** after he drank his piss. If not for Brother ****m there would have been no reason to watch shanes camp.

But one of Pac's last 2 PPV fights was against Clottey, who is a virtual unknown. I'm saying that I think the public did not buy as many of the Pac/DLH fight because people did not think Pac would be so competitive.

Floyd's attitude is like a double edged sword, people will tune in to watch him win and to watch him lose. Floyd is definitely the better salesman no doubt but I think now Pac carries the weight in his PPV's, meaning that he can still fight a no name guy and still do good numbers.

I feel that at this stage of the game, Floyd fighting a guy like Clottey would be looked down upon because of his past fights- just like now, no one wants to see Floyd fight anyone besides Pac. If Floyd were to fight another, lesser opponent, people would not be so eager to buy the event where as Pac would do better against a lesser name opponent.

I agree that Floyd does mega numbers but he has put himself up on a pedestal so that he can't afford to fight anyone unknown and do great numbers...people will label him as a ducker or say that he is better than that or whatever the case may be.

I'm not saying that Floyd does not do better numbers than Pac but Floyd has been a PPV fighter for some years now where as Pac is now getting into the limelight so to speak (2.5 years as a mainstream PPV guy).
