Most people aren't saying PBF is fighting a decorated guy with no fanbase. But based on numbers PBF deserves a bigger split of the money. I as a PBF fan don't feel it should be a 60/40 split that is too much. Something in between 52/48 to 55/45 is good IMO.

      • although i see manny's reasoning for not accepting a smaller purse split.... i find it unrealistic. floyd 1-upped him in PPV... floyd 1-upped him in opponent.

IMO, GBP is killing top rank in the promo game... people need to realize one of the MAIN reasons to floyds success is TREMENDOUS promotional push & a targeted effort to the urban demographic (ellerbe/floyds plan). plus, HBO loves GBP & floyd. i remember the hbo ads alone were heavily favoring floyd/shane... i barely saw anything regarding manny/clottey... or even manny/cotto... schaeffer goes above and beyond when it comes to promo. schaeffer even brought floyd/jmm to theatres. GBP deserves ALOT of credit. how else could a defensive fighter with a style that doesnt cater to casual fans make $$$$$?????

if floyd fought collazo with MINIMAL promotion & no 24/7... do you think he wouldve broken 700k????

lets face the facts, manny immediately faced clottey after cotto, with rushed promotion (a fraction of the effort of the norm for GBP)... the promotion didnt have time to cook, no 24/7, no theatres, crap undercards.... arum did a disservice to manny, IMO.

due to bad promotion & horrible management (and of course, his unwillingness to test), manny went from calling the shots in march, to losing his negotiating power. tsk tsk. FAIL

          • Mayweather wants a bigger cut, Pacquiao wants a cut off date. Mayweather should agree to the 50/50 split and Pacquiao should agree to the full USADA program, which by the way wont conduct any tests closer to the fight then they have to and only if there's any reason to do so.

If that's not a good compromise i don't know what the **** is.

Add on top of that you have plenty of people who feel Marquez won at least 1 or both fights with Manny and with a so called passionate fanbase that is all he can draw.

There is a big difference between solid following and passionate fanbase.
Dude its ok to be wrong I have been wrong on here before and I know for sure I will be wrong on here again. Its not that serious!!!

Funny thing is I think the fight will do better numbers than you do and I am the one who thinks Marquez doesn't have a passionate fanbase
I am actually basing their numbers when they fought Mediocre opponents wherein the PPV buys were only between 100-150 PPV buys.

Cotto and Marquez both have fan bases , its just it wont carry it when they are fighting no-name mediocre opponents like Jennings (for Cotto) and Salido (for Marquez).. In both cases, the numbers were awful..

Because at the end of the day, its also about great fights, which is when a fanbase for each fighter comes in to play. Unfortunately, there is a cap when it comes to boxing fanbases as well which is probably around 450,000 PPV buys, and its consistent: Marquez- pre-Oscar Pac (400 K), Cotto-Margarito (450K), Cotto-Mosley (400K), pre-Oscar Floyd- Judah (350K), and so on and so forth...

But if you have a great fight featuring a mainstream sports star like Pac or Floyd against fighters who are credible and with a following. Add to that a 24/7 marketing the fight, then you have a formula that has potential to make 1M PPV buys.

The truth is we have proven that Pac can carry a no-name fighter like Clottey and make a mildly successful PPV. Its just that there is a limit and its probably between 500 - 800K.

As for Mayweather there is still no proof as to an extent of how his popularity can carry a fight against a fighter like Clottey, because he still hasn't fought one. Maybe he can carry a PPV pass 1M.. but then again maybe not.. Because that one still remains to be seen.

If I am wrong, then I am wrong but at this point neither of us can assume on how popular Floyd is. All I know at this point is he deserved more than 50% of the split. However I also know that Pac has a chance of getting the leverage back on his side if he fights Margarito, because that one has also a good chance of breaking 1M PPV buys if promoted properly.

              • Fight for legacy... Not the hustle..

Why should guy who was awarded FIGHTER OF THE DECADE get less than 50%! After PAC meets FLOYDS 14 Day cut-off... NOW HE GOTTA MAKE IT A MONEY ISSUE?? When is this guy FLOYD gonna stop with his demands... man up... and just FIGHT! Fight for legacy man.. Fight with some heart.. Don't fight for the hustle...

Why are you people assuming that Floyd really wants the fight? THIS IS ANOTHER DUCK MOVE BY FLOYD. Plain and clear.

They wanted none of cotto, too. It's a fact that the mayweather seniors were so sure of cotto dominating pac in their fight last year. Lo and behold they couldn't believe cotto was forced to ride his bike in the later rounds. They were very impressed with pac. Something they think floyd can't possibly do.
bro you can't be serious. You think cotto made pbf retire? Wow! I guess we'll just ignor arum openly stating to the media that cotto wasn't ready for mayweather. Wow.

                    • Told Ya!

I told u guys that the purse was an issues either yesterday or the day after, because Floyd gave in some what of the demand he feels in title to more money ex: 8oz gloves, 14 days cut off day. It should be 50-50 and the winner should get a bigger cut of the PPV numbers ..like 55-45, but come on they are both guarantee at least 40 million, these guys are just greedy. The only reason these guys are making this much is because of us the fans! There have been far better fighters that have not even earn 1/32 in their life time (and I'm talking all time greats) of what these guys will be making in one night, and to be perfectly honest this has all the making of a Shi@#$ fight, too much hype and they are going to be technical and scare of each other!
