It was no different this week when he took a shot at Golden Boy Promotions and some of its fighters regarding a junior welterweight tournament Shaw said he recently pitched to HBO executives. The tournament could feature the likes of champions Timothy Bradley, Devon Alexander, Amir Khan and, perhaps, Juan Manuel Marquez should Marquez beat Juan Diaz in a July 31 rematch. Shaw - who promotes Bradley - said HBO big-shots like his idea, but that Khan and Golden Boy - which promotes Khan and Marquez - are not interested.

Shaw said he was in New York last week continuing a month-long sales job to HBO.

"The problem is, Amir Khan obviously doesn't like the idea and I would assume Golden Boy doesn't like the idea, too," Shaw said. "But we would do it and Devon Alexander would do it. And you can confirm it. It's just a call. I'll give you Richard Schaefer's number if you want it.

well, that's the problem with boxers, promoters. do tennis players like nadal or federer have promoters who decides who faces who? why can't the boxing commission/organizations promote the fight properly?

i'm afraid you're right, but it's more likely that it's arum who is the real chicken when it comes to manny fighting a real challenge.

i think the intention was fight marquez-diaz winner and then winner of bradley-alexander.

problem is shaw wants bradley-khan or bradley-marquez.

he doesn't want bradley-alexander.

this is all about business and money.

khan wants marquez not bradley or alexander because of money and better name recognition.

bradley wants khan and marquez rather than alexander because of the same thing.

alexander is at the bottom of the money/name recognition food chain so he doesn't mind any of the 3.

shaw is just talking out of his ass.

that's why even schaeffer called him out on it by saying why don't bradley fight alexander and winner gets to meet khan-marquez winner.

Khan should get himself in that tourney, not that I expect him too though. We all read his De La Hoya comment.

yes on the condition that he gets the easy fight vs marquez and bradley and alexander have to fight each other. that would get rid of 1 of the real threats in the division and he would find a way to slither out of fighting the winner to fight casamayor or some other so called "big" name.
