Comments Thread For: Shaw: Golden Boy, Amir Khan Turn Down 140 Tourney

Promoter Gary Shaw had a recent meeting with HBO and pitched the idea of a big 140-pound tournament. Based on Shaw's idea, the tournament would include champions Timothy Bradley, Devon Alexander, Amir Khan, and Juan Manuel Marquez - if he beats Juan Diaz next month. [Click Here To Read More]

Bunch of ****ing Clowns!!!!! So they wanted to let Maidana out, too?

      This tourney
Should be a 8 Man single elimination tournament! Winers face each other loser face each other!!!

Khan isnt ready for it. GBP is smart considering they are not trying to ruin Khan's career (which this tournament would do).

The tourny would be good with: Bradley, Alexander, Judah, Maibuza, Maidana, and Ortiz. Because Khan is out, I'm pretty sure Ortiz is out too.

Maybe Lamont Peterson or Juan Urango would look good in the tourny. Or if Berto would drop to 140, then it would be tight.

He should shut his mouth, he pitched the idea of having JMM in the tourney in place of a few others who are actual jr welterweights.

That sounds like a great idea. I thought Khan wanted this? After he beat Malignaggi he mentioned fighting in a type of tourney. Obviously GBP don't have much faith in Khan. Props to Alexander as he will fight anyone.

Sounds good to me but Gloden Boy would never take that chance its to risky because if Alexander or Bradley pull Khans name its a wrap for Khan career

And why shouldnt he? Khan will fight Marquez in December if he wins in July.

Hard to disagree, there's no doubt GBP has no intention of putting Khan in there with skills and a punch. Malignaggi has skills, no punch. JMM has skills, no punch (over 135, anyway). Maybe next summer they'll risk Khan against Bradley or Alexander, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Ditto Maidana. LOL at more and more promoters trying to call out GBP & HBO's obvious plan to protect Khan at all costs.
