The truth is Earl, we don't know for sure but he could have and some things make me think he was more likely to have done so though I can't be 100% sold on it still due to an obvious lack of solid evidence.

The HBO documentary was pretty clear. He removed the padding AND his wraps were physically dipped in plaster once his hands were wrapped.
