This "Cotto never fought a champion for a belt" argument is overrated. True, he won mostly vacant titles in his career but he always fought the best possible fighters. Mosley, Margarito, and Clottey were all top WW when Cotto fought them. Pacquiao was the #1 P4P fighter, plus all those fights were exciting to watch and now he's willing to fight the best at 154. Cotto is the truth, my nizzle.

He didnt want the fight with floyd when it was offered to him. I will give him mosley but the other three people he faced put a beating on him even though clottey lost the decision.

How was he protective? At the time Bazan was a step up, Ndou was a dangerous opponent, Bailey a puncher is always dangerous, corley southpaw veteran dangerous, Ricardo Torres undefeated heavy hitter dangerous. First fight at 147 Quintana undefeated top 10 WW dangerous.

Again no name recognition like Mosley but dangerous at the time and the stage he fought them at. When was the right time to make the fight?

I think it was safe to say that Cotto's resume @ 140 was rightfully scrutinized for being light

Bazan- while the experience edge was huge for Bazan realize this was barely his 2nd official fight @ 140 having largely been a 135 fighter

NDou- while NDou has always been rugged you do realize he has never really won a fight where it was considered a step up? Unless you call the untested Rabah a step up

Bailey- definitely a step up but at the time they fought Bailey had been through a rough patch

Chop- first fight where we have seen Cotto hurt badly. Southpaws can be deadly if you are not prepared for them but I think we could see the slide on Chop as he went on a 6 fight losing streak post Cotto. He clearly was no longer the same fighter that fought Judah two years prior

Torres- literally no one knew who this guy was and to be honest what has this guy done post to make anyone really think he is anything of note on someone's resume? sure he gave us a great scrap with Cotto but he also lost to stinker Arnaoutis, got a controversial win over Holt in Columbia, and then lost in the first in their rematch

Quintana- good first fight as a 147lb debut

Public opinion doesn't mean he cheated against Cotto. People can have their opinions but there have been zero facts that he used against Cotto. Every theory that came up that he used against Cotto has been shutdown with facts.

People now think AM used his loaded gloves in more than 2 fights. It's a fact AM has to live with. AM actually tried to load his gloves so that he could be the first to ko Shane lol... WTF lol...!!!
