It shouldn't matter to anyone except the guy standing across the ring. I completely see where Check is coming from, I'm a huge Sergio fan, but the guy doesn't bring any money to the table atm. Saying the guy doesn't draw doesn't take away from his skill, but it does take away opponents for him because just like Mayweather does, its a big risk for little reward. If someone told Cotto he could fight JCC Jr. for 5 million guaranteed or Martinez for 2 million its obvious he's going to take Jr. Its simply the smarter choice, look good in winning and live large with money.

HBO will throw extra money for a fight they really want. It's not out of the realm of possibility Cotto could make 3 million against Martinez.

There's a limited # of fighters Cotto would be able to go to PPV against and be successful (Margarito, Pacquiao).

I wouldn't say Cotto's afraid, but with Steward on his team now, I don't think he would want that.

Chavez Jr. would bit Cotto's biggest payday aside from Pac/Marg/May. Chavez is probably a bigger draw in Mexico now than when Marg was when he fought Cotto. Maybe not for his skill but because of his name, either way Cotto would get far more than 3 million for that fight just off a guarantee. Add in PPV and gate revenue Cotto would end up making nearly 10 million I would imagine, its no contest man. Sergio is a lot of things but a draw is not one of them, at least not yet.

Who said it would ever be his last fight. He could take on Marg, Pac, Martinez, Floyd I can go on and on, but it would only make his stock go up to fight these guys in terms of revenue. It would give him more time with Stewart to expand the base they've started already as well, its a win/win for Cotto. Easy fight, easy payday, and it only makes him look better.

IF pac/may make the fight its 2 out of 4, which is A LOT more options than anyone else in boxing has. Martinez and Berto are screaming out any name to get a fight while Cotto is sitting at home watching Sportscenter while guys are lining up to face him. Considering 3 of 4 guys you mentioned are also all under Top Rank Cotto can do anything he wants to. Add to the fact that guy has faced most of the top fighters in the world already he's earned a big easy check. Judah, Mosley, Marg, Clottey, Pac all within a 3 year period... yea he earned a couple of easy fights.

What happened to Martinez and Dibella trying to get a fight with Winky Wright? I'm glad they are not calling him out anymore. And lol at people trying to discourage the idea of Cotto fighting a legit champion. Talk about major nuthugging. Cotto gets paid regardless of who he fights. He got $3 million to fight Jennings. So if he takes a fight with a Yuri Foreman type opponent at 160, then he is ducking Sergio 100%.
