Roy Jones beat an unmotivated Toney who wasn't nearly as dangerous as he was when he was really on for a fight. He also beat a much younger Bernard Hopkins who was not on top of his game mentally. Both were still very good wins however.

James Toneys best wins were against maybe the best fighter in the world (at the time) and the legitimate p4p #1 fighter in Michael Nunn and the Cruiserweight king in Vassiliy Jirov. Nunn was 36-0 and could do it all. Great fluid boxing skills, a good chin, power in both hands, threw punches in combination behind the jab well, great footwork, etc. His win over Jirov was so great because Jirov was a top 10 p4p guy at the time, he was avoided like the plague, he was an insane body puncher with a great workrate, and he was as tough as nails. Outside of that, Toney has beaten McCallum x2, Barkley, Williams, Holyfield, Littles...Jones has beaten Tarver, Malinga, Pazienza, Griffin, Hill, Woods.

I think that James has taken on the tougher competition personally.

Jones will always have that win over the weight-drained Toney, and a win is a win, but I agree with the old gringo: Toney overall has faced the stronger competition.

I got a question why is it ok for Toney to be wieght drained for that fight but roy JONES just got KTFO...so hes a bum but he is also ****ed up from the wieght thing IMO..It dont matter though theres no excuses Jones shouldnt have gone back so its his fault...And Toney shouldnt have stepped in the ring..I think Jones Beats any Toney Prime for Prime..The Jones that beat Ruiz would Abuse the heavy wieght Toney u cant tell me im wrong on that one...

I agree that Roy would beat Toney p4p just because of styles, but the fight would have been much closer.

I don't agree that the Jones that beat Ruiz would have beat the Toney that beat Holyfield. Roy wasn't as fast or effective at heavyweight and that's why he only fought at HW once. He knew he was going to beat the slow ass, unskilled Ruiz. James really hasn't lost his quickness at HW though and his handspeed is still sick. I think he'd KO Jones at heavyweight.

Jones said his body had acclimated for the second fight. He said he made the weight easily. And, I'm sure you recall that he looked just as quick in that first round in Jones v. Tarver II as he had for the last couple years. I was watching with a buddy of mine, who is a very knowledgable boxing fan and a long-time Jones fan, and he said after that 1st round that Jones looked as quick and strong as he had against Ruiz.

As far as it being OK or not OK for Toney to be weight drained, like I said, that's Toney's problem. If he wasn't physically able to get up for that fight, then he never should have stepped through the ropes. He did. Jones won. End of story.
