Georges Carpentier was a flyweight when he was 14. By Age 19 he was a full-time light heavyweight. He never became world champion in any weight class except light heavyweight. Rather than being a flyweight beating heavyweights, it would be more accurate to say that he was a light heavyweight beating heavyweights.
I think you can make just as good of a case that Leonard, Duran, Hearns, Haggler, etc. would lose to the best modern fighters as you can make for them beating the best modern fighters. Also, the 4-belt era already started by the end of the 1980's, so winning a belt now is no different than winning a belt was for Chavez or Whitaker.
