Did you watch the Pac fight? Watch it again if you did and see Cotto's flaws, then come back here and say he's the best at 154. There are more than 2 or 3 guys there that are better more well rounded fighters than Cotto. Martinez would beat Cotto at 154 and so would Williams.

That being said Cotto was awesome in his prime, which he has past now.

He doesnt do so good with people who can play his game which is to stalk the opponent.. if he has someone pressuring it isnt good for him..
But at the same time he always starts off good.. just gets tired in the later rounds.. He was boxing beautifully in the 1st half of the fight.. untill he gassed from the pressure.. same with Pac..

I think that if he actually boxed in the 154 division instead of trying to brawl with everyone and stays behind his jab and works more on his stamina he could be the best fighter in the division..

I hate hearing about someone being to small.. Pac was too small and look what he's done.. May is small and look at what he's done.. Now some people will tell me not to compare Cotto with May or Pac but in all seriousness Cotto is up there with the elite fighters wether people want to admit it or not..

The only person i think he would have the most trouble with is Martinez but its still a winnable fight..

Pwill got his ears boxed out by Quintana.. If Cotto puts on a "boxing" fight then i really do think he could beat Pwill..

The fight I want to see right now is Cotto vs...... well honestly anyone in the division.. I really dont think there would be a bad fight no matter who he fights there..

It wouldnt be bad for him to go down to 147 and fight Berto either or May..
good post chachi. its not that im writing off cotto at 154, its just so happen that he looked slow and small to me at 154

for those people whos failing to comprehend, lets put it this way

if floyd mayweather moves up to 154 and lost against martinez, does it mean that martinez is a better fighter than him?

or maybe floyd moving up to 160 and losing to pavlik, does it automatically make pavlik a better fighter than him?

The stats are way in Martinez' favor.
          Height: 5′ 10″ / 178cm
          Reach: 76″ / 193cm

          Cotto
          Height: 5′ 7″ / 170cm
          Reach: 67″ / 170cm

Martinez has a 9 inch reach advantage and fights at a distance anyways, Cotto would be at the end of straights all night. Cotto is too small and too slow to beat Martinez IMO. It would be a great fight while it lasted though, exciting but I think Martinez wins it.

So you're saying he's the best fighter thats at 154 even though if he was to face Martinez and Williams he would lose

            He still the best

            ???

This is Cotto's first fight at the weight and it was against Foreman. Foreman is a solid technician but is not one of the top SWW. I know Cotto is a warrior and will fight anybody but most think and I agree that the division has physically naturally bigger fighters in their primes.

Unless Cotto can develop into a Montel Griffin and is able to be an effective counterpuncher fighter he will have a hard time win the top of the division. Not saying that he can't win but it would be very competitive matches

i didnt say cotto would lose. i said, he MAY lose. theres a big difference right?

let me ask you this question,

if floyd mayweather moves up to 154 and lost against martinez, does it mean that martinez is a better fighter than him?

Cotto isn't the best fighter at 154.
